Hello,

I have a quick thought about vbulletin's and vbadvanced's copyright notices in the footer area. Does vbulletin's copyright really have to be there at the portal pages? Would removing vbulletin's copyright "powered by: vbulletin" from the cmps pages be a wrong thing to do? But I'm only talking about the pages generated or run by vbadvanced, I would still leave the vbulletin copyright notices at my forums.

The reason that I'm asking this is because I'm planning to buy the branding free option for vbadvanced mainly because with vbadvanced's copyright notices and vbulletin and jeslofs copyright notices in the footer, there is just way too many copyright notices taking space.

What I have created (but haven't used it yet) is a conditional statement where the vbulletin's powered by would only show at the forums, and the vbadvanced's powered by notice would only show in the cmps pages.

I know vbadvanced uses most of vbulletin's main code to function, but what is the main point of having vbulletin's powered by at the footer if vbulletin.com does not support modified boards or anything else except a forum software? technically speaking only vbadvanced's copyright should be in the cmps page.

Now this is the thought from my point of view and it's my opinion, and in no way I'm forcing anyone to agree with me so don't jump on me.

I would like Brian to participate in this discussion too,

thank you.

You know, that's a good question. By default it's picking up the vB copyright because CMPS (and Gallery and Links) uses the actual vBulletin footer template (the Powered By vBadvanced noticed is in a different template). If you wanted to I supposed you could just wrap the copyright variable in a conditional so it doesn't show anywhere except on the actual vB page.

The vBulletin copyright must appear on all pages that are generated by vBulletin and its backend, since vBadvanced uses vBulletins backend template engine you must leave the vBulletin copyright on those pages.

Is that Jelsoft's stance on the copyright now? The last time I asked them about it they said that it would not have to be on the pages...

Zachery may I ask where you got that information from so I can read the rest of it if there is more? I searched at vbulletin's license agreement and could not find what you mentioned, http://www.vbulletin.com/order/license_agreement.php. Also what you mentioned seems very reasonable, but I think what they talk about is pages that are generated by vbulletin in the forums, like the threads, posts, memberlists, and so on. But vba does generate some of the code itself and even some templates that don't come with vbulletin's default package. Again I'm not sure if there is more agreements except this page http://www.vbulletin.com/order/license_agreement.php, but as far as reading that page, it doesn't clearify my question,

thanks you for the answers,
Sean

The pages in vBa are clearly generated by vBulletins backend, which is still vBulletin.

Templates are still output by the vBulletin style engine.

Honestly, I could see it going either way as far as the legal side. While vBa products are not vB's code, global.php, functions.php, and etc are. If it's a concern of yours, I would suggest putting in a support ticket over at vb.com and ask them. :)
