Very Slow to load index page.

I have just upraded to vb3.5.1 and vbadv 2.0.0

I am having some serious performance issues with the speed of loading the main index page/portal. It's not the server as the forum indexes load quite quickly but the portal page takes minutes to load.

Any tips or clues would be appreciated.

Bit more on this, it's only slow if you are a logged in user. Displays for Guest are quite fast and acceptable.

Try disabling modules that are shown to logged in members, and not to guests, one by one to see which one is causing it. (Don't forget the Quick Moderation module if you're logging in as an Admin.)

As Cong' mentioned, the quick moderation module is usually one of the culprits for the sympton your're describing. The other could be the Stats module.

These are exactly the same modules I was running prior to the upgrade. The only module that Guests do not see that Admin/mods see is the Quick Moderation Module. Regular Users and Guests see the same page, I even uninstalled CMPS and rinstalled it but the problem remains.

I tested as a regular user who sees the same page as a Guest with the exception of the Login box/PM Stats etc in the top right.

Guest - 3 Seconds
Logged in User - 15 Seconds

quite a bit of a difference. Any other suggestions? I can supply further info/configs if needed.

Ok I have located the module that is giving me the slowdowns (upwards of 30 seconds for logged in users now) It is the Recent Threads module, any idea why this module is lsowing things down so badly ?? It had no forums selected which meant it searched all 102+ subforums for new threads I guess, specific selection of forums helps somewhat but still makes the page load time unacceptable. This was not the case with the previous version, is there anything I can do or that can be done to speed up this module? :)

Some additional info .. it's ok at the moment with the following settings... (not sure which one caused the slow down yet..)

I think the Show Subscribed Icon is be biggest culprit...

Whats slowing down, the loading of the CMS page? And can you tell me if it is, its it hanging at the NAV bar then all of a sudden loading the rest of the page fast once it loads. If so it sounds like you have the same problem I had that Brain fixed.

Mine was doing the same. As a Guest it was loading fast, but when logged in, it was as though the page was hanging at the NAV bar for ages, then loading fast. What Brian had to do to fix the issue was remove the java script from the CMPS login box if I'm correct.

Buy you'll have to double check if your symptoms are the same

The page is completley white for upwards of 60 seconds depending on the server load and then the content comes up fast .. so it's blank(read white) for ages then when the content is displayed it all comes up fast.

I have worked around it with disabling the Subscribed Threads option (this was the diff between guests and reg'd users) but another issue has raised it's head no after upgrading php to 5.0.4 and mysql to 5.0.16 with the iconid on the portal page. Not vbulletin as the rest of the forum works fine see the link below ...
