Can someone let me know what the feaure list is in 2.0? Wanting to know, before I purchase another license...

Any input? I saw on a thread, someone that is incorporating an image into each link? Is this possible?

Thanks -

Brian has said that Links 2.x is on it's way but he hasn't released a feature list yet. He's out of reach for a few days but when he returns we can bug... uh, ask... him then. :)

More options and control over things.
Permissions can be changed per directory.
Option to fetch meta data (title, description, and keywords) from the site and have it automatically inserted during the submission.
Custom fields can be enabled/disabled per directory.
Last reply info shown on main links index page.
Random links section now done through a cron job for performance reasons on larger sites.
"Link to Us" page updated so admins can upload their own banners and such without actually having to edit any templates or change any code.
"What's New" section changed to show links/posts from the last several days (pretty much the same way the gallery was).
User categories where members will be able to create/manage their own directories.

Just a quick list off the top of my head. Those are the features/options that have already been added and I'm sure there will be a few more before the release, and I'm sure there are a few I'm forgetting. :)

If that means you're thinking of something like this hack (http://www.vbadvanced.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1669) (demonstrated here (http://www.coolscifi.com/index.php?pg=link_to_us)) I'll have to send you some extra beer money. :D

Will the update from vbaLinks 1.01 to 2.0 be for free or does that cost something?!

TobiEach license purchase includes a free year of software updates; if your license is current you'll be able to download the updated version from the Member's Area or you can renew license at a discounted rate if the license has expired.

Yes. The way links are submitted will be slightly different now so that this option can be used, along with custom fields for categories. When you go to submit a link you will first see a field for the URL and the category drop-down. Once you hit the 'Submit' button, you will then be taken to another page that will have all of the options for the title, description, keywords, and any custom fields. The first three options will already be filled in for the user (assuming that option is turned on and the meta data is available), but they will still have the option to make changes if they wish.

I'll have a Corona please. ;)

Here's a quick screenshot for you too. Just ignore the crappy banner images. :p

Brian is it possible to integrate an option to add more than only one hp adress and the possibility to check if they are existing already in the database if somebody ads a new link? I'm asking because some sites have more than only one webadress.
Also options for using html and phrases in custom fields would be nice. And can we expect it before christmas?
Thanks

Any chance to have a user enter an image for the link? Looking to use VBaLinks to do a links of restaurants on my CMPS...

How hard is this? I saw an exmaple in one of the forums, but not sure if this is something to consider in 2.0?

Brian

Ramses - There's a good chance that additional URL's will be made an option from the custom fields section, but I doubt any type of duplicate checks on this field will be added in 2.0.

interfx - Probably not at this time. I haven't really seen the hack to add images, so I'm not sure how hard it would be to install and such.

Here's the thread I saw it in

Read post #31

Looks relatively simple, but no idea how to start...

What do you think Brian?

Brian

While it wouldn't be *that* hard, it would take a little work to add the code to allow uploads, do security checks, display the image, and etc. Something like this may be added one day, but for right now we're concentrating more on features that would be valuable for a links directory.

I understand... For now I can live without it... Maybe someone will release a mod for this...

Thanks, looking forward to VBaLinks 2.0...

Out of curiosity, will links 2.0 have a csv importer?

Out of curiosity, will links 2.0 have a csv importer?

It really needs to have some type of importer, and the most basic would be a *.csv type importer... some basic comma delimited, or tab delimited would be awesome...

I'd prefer the deliminater be a variable we can set at import. I tend to use obscure characters like "^" just because they dont appear much in common use. :)

INterfXNot sure if this is done yet, but I have implemented this on my links directory - with nice drop downs too.

So you better be prepared to upgrade the hack for Links 2.0 when the time comes. :D

Hi..

I wondered, i like the look of this script and i would have wasted $50 on another topsites script if this would allow a user to upload a banner? - i like the look of the screenshots of sites, very nice... so can a user upload their own image or banner? if so im sold! :)

I've been holding off purchasing/installing VBaLinks until v2.0 debuts (don't like the idea of purchasing, paying someone for install, then paying again to have the upgrade installed).

Any timeframe estimates?

Any chance that this code could be improved to include a referral ID? The referral ID modification/module was great, but since v3.5, it no longer works integrated with 'Link to Us' add-on. Dropping the images into a folder was great - integrating the referral ID into code was even better....

Yes. The way links are submitted will be slightly different now so that this option can be used, along with custom fields for categories. Getting no answer is very bad.
Even a NO, we will not update the links script is an answer.
Then we know that we have to search for another script but currently I do not find a statement here regarding a vBLinks update or new 2.0 version :(

Must admit that it could be seen in a potentially sinister light :(

As some of you may know Brian has been tied up lately with some non-vBa projects so he can not personally respond to each inquiry as much as he used to.

I've spoken with Brian about vBa Links recently and as we've posted in various other threads both a vB 3.6.B compatible update is coming and the outlined Links 2.0.0 release is also coming. What I do not know at this time is whether the current version will be patched for vB 3.6.B as-is or if the next release will be both 2.0.0 and vB 3.6.B compatible. As soon as I get an updated status I'll let every one know.

Many thanks for the reply KW802, definitely satisfies my curiosity enough for me to settle and wait patiently :DNo problem. One of the benefits of being a vBa Links customer and being on staff is that I get to bug Brian directly sometimes. Because of his 'day job' I know he's been really swamped under lately but I still harass... uh, I mean remind, yeah, remind... him about some of the updates. :D

We don't mean to pester you or pester Brian, we are simply enthusiastic customers who are after the latest version of their fav links script so we can plan our eventual upgrade to vB3.6 :)
