News module bug

If you have a news item that has quoting in it, the news module will break the page. The only way to prevent this is to disallow BB codes in the news module.

Here is an example:

http://www.trackpads.com/forum/portal.php?page=spmbt

Any ideas? Other than turning bbcode off?

Yep. Known issue and discussed many times... You either have to not use the QUOTE tag in news items, or extend the number of characters shown to include the closing QUOTE tag.

Ah, so no fix at all for it? I hate removing the bbcode tag and explaining to users the 500 character rule would be like rocket science to some of my folks :)

If you check around the hacks forum there's a post which has instructions on a way to correct the problem. It can add some overhead to the page though depending on how many news posts you have.
