View Full Version : White pages...
I've got the latest version running of CMPS, but when I go the different frontpages I have set up I get a lot of white pages with nothing in it (also no code). It doens't happen all the time but when it does it's really annoying. I already did some testing with my hostingprovider that it's not the fault of the sql or IIS server, but that looks all very ok. The other things is that it really only happens on the CMPS part of the website, the forum is working fine, as well as the vbadvanced gallery part. Anybody any idea?
You can take a look at my (dutch) site: www.shark.nu

I've just checked all of your links, but they seem to be working fine for me. What browser/OS are you using? Does refreshing the page help when you get a white page?
Well currently I don't have problems either... this morning and afternoon were sometimes problems, after refreshing for 10-20 times it suddenly started again. Another method that seems to work that if I see that the frontpage has a problem I go directly to the forum using forum.php, and after that back to the index.php page and then it works again.
I've used 4 different computers: xp, xp sp2, osx10,4, 2003 server with opera, internet explorer and firefox and they all have the same problem time to time.
For me it looks like if there is a problem making a connection with the database from index.php.

That sounds more like a server issue that anything. There's nothing that I can think of that would cause it to behave like that on the coding side.
Yeah I thought so too, but we monitored the whole thing and when the page goes blank there is no communication between the webserver and sql server. There are both 2 physical different servers. In the mean time when we do check another page that works we see normal traffic. So it looks like that the page that we're trying to watch doesn't do anything.
But we'll take another look, I thought I would post this anyway to see if it was a known issue.
After some monitoring and testing we still have the same problems. If I don't find a solution I'm afraid I have to look for something else. I even installed a fresh copy on another server and still have the same problem.

I just checked your site again and it does seem to happen for me if I refresh the page a few times. I've never seen a problem like this so I can't *guarantee* I'll be able to find the solution, but if you'd like to submit a support ticket via the Members' Area here I'll be glad to take a look at some things and see if I can figure out the problem.

i have the same problem
perhaps because of the plugins installed on my forum
i got the same problem when i upgrade my forum from 3.5.1 to 3.5.2 and it was resolved when i upload the files included in the plugins installed before.

i think it must be something wrong in the datastore table
Brian; did you already have a change to take a look?
James; how can I check if something is wrong with the datastore table????

I have the same problem and was told by my hosts that their servers are running in safe mode - it makes it very difficult to install any php files without problems.
Maybe they are just giving me wrong answers but its the only thing i can think of

jorg - I started to look at the problem the other day, but of course after I had your login info and such then it quit giving me the blank pages. I've left the ticket open though so I can try taking a look again and hopefully be able to reproduce the problem again.
It seems it is different every day... some days only very few white pages and some days, like today... once every 5 pages I view on the frontpage.

The only time I've seen that sort of behavior was when gzip is on. It's probably not your problem but try turning gzip off in vbulletin options and see if it makes any difference.
I tried all tips and stuff, but still no luck. Yesterday I upgraded vbulletin to 3.5.3, upgraded GARS (www.thevbgeek.com) to the gold version, and I don't see a new verson of CMPS. So that should be okay. I turned off all gallery frontpage hacks so that no strange plugins could ruin the frontpage... but still white pages... It's driving me crazy... so strange so strange...

I wish I could reproduce the problem on an at least somewhat consistant basis. The last few times I've checked your site though it hasn't happened to me.
The last 2 weeks where pretty okay... not much white pages. But the last two days are just insane... only white pages... for 70% of the time. Again testing it on different computers, in different networks, with different browsers, etc. :(
Hopefully the 2.1.0 will fix this... maybe it has something to do with the caching and looking up in the database.
Whooo hooo finally found the problem! I installed the upcoming events module, and after disabling this module everything is working fine again! Apparently more people are having problem with this, take a look at: http://www.vbadvanced.com/forum/showthread.php?t=12988
