Sort of as expected. It's possible to add code to catch this but it's such a rare situation I decided against it when doing the module. As I'm focused on other things at the moment I doubt I'll have time or the desire to do an update for this any time in the near future. However feel free to modify the code however you see fit if this winds up being an ongoing problem - or find a more reliable feed  .

I'm betting that either it's not checked as 'Active' or not marked to display on the page as those are the two most common things that arise. After that it's the url to the feed. If it's not the first two things then post the feed you are trying to use and I'll take a look at it. Oh, and a link to the site is always helpful.

Hi,
1. For some Days now i have at 5 of 10 Feeds this "grey" Effect at the beginning of some Feedboxes - ideas ? s. Screenshot on the right Side "Tagesschau".
2. Can you please update this Hack so that itīs Code is XHTML/DHTML conform ? If i move the Feedboxes to the right Side they have different widhts, sometimes they break over the Footer, sometimes they press my middle News together etc ..... Something seems very buggy at the Code of the Boxes. :(

At the moment all my time is pretty much focused on a new site I'm bringing up but feel free to modify the templates any way you like to make them compliant as that's where all the html stuff is.

Thanks for the answer. Can we hope that there will be a Update if you have more Time in the Future ?Yes and no. I doubt I'll update the 3.5 version as I've recently released the 3.6 version. However the only things that need changing are the templates so I guess anythings possible. ;)
EDIT: My bad... I haven't done a 3.6 version of this as there's no need to! The 3.5 version runs just fine on my 3.6.4 version running vBa 2.2

When I use the module, the page continues "loading" even after it should be done. The status bar reads "Transferring data from google-analytics.com". I do use Google Analytics, but why is this module causing it to "keep" loading? http://www.volconvo.com/cmps.php?page=news

The only difference is the width of the module. Both browsers reported 'Done' when the page loaded.

Hi Tom,
Thanks for the help, I got the images working. :)
I've got another problem (unrelated) that maybe you can help with. My RSS feed sometimes shows a large blank area at the very top of the feed. When you refresh the screen it disappears. Any ideas of what could be causing that?
Thanks!

Everyone how gets problems with Charsets and the HTML Templates here better use this System (it still works perfect even it was released for older Version of vBadvanced!!!) :
Newsfeeds with Selector Menu (http://www.vbadvanced.com/forum/showthread.php?t=3098&highlight=Feeds)
Works like a charm because it uses still updated CARP Aggregator ! ;)

All the charset stuff can easily be handled via the Data Modification section of this module. The primary requirement is that the host support iconv() capability. BTW - I thought you had all this working using this module? What happened?

Well, the thing is that the gray area is related to the scrolling window stuff. It can be made to work but it may still wind up with problems depending on the browser. As I've stated before - I personally don't like it but implemented a generic version as someone requested it. Since the scrolling window is just HTML the template can be modified any way the user wishes.

1. Yeah - because it is hardly need if you have over 10 Feeds with a lot o Content in it. Thatīs another Reason why i use the other RSS Blocksystem. It uses less Space through the pull Down Menu.
2. I tried anything nothing helps.
I think the Problem is that there is no real Parser behind.
3. At a lot of new Feeds there are more Problems that do not happen with CARP.
Broken Longtitles of Feeds, Pictures are entered correct, the Template is 100% XHTML/DHTML conform.
4. And the best is CARP is updated if there are new Features or Standards at the RSS World. ;)
Anyway - what about this Featurerequests :
1. Use CARP as Parser in the Background
2. Choosable to choose Feeds from a Pulldownmenu (then no scrolling is needed) if the User choose this Mode from AdminCP.
I think yours and the other Hack are for different Peoples.
Yours : For less Feeds for Admins who only want Feeds at Portal (2 to 3).
Other one: For a lot of Feeds including a lot of Features (Pics, Colours etc.) and of course it is more editable and flexibel because of the very good and simple Instructions for CARP and you can show your Feeds anywhere at your Project. Not only in the Box by simple Templateedits.
So if you want to grow your Hack please include some more Options that make it more comfortable. Otherwise - why cant the both Modules life beside each other. :)
Of course - the best thing was if you can update and grow your Module and make it XHMTL/DHTML comform but i think it is much more work then it is worth it.
So dont be angry i just want other Users like me needing much more Feeds to show who they can get it simple without spending hours to increase and edit your Modules for their need. I think so both sides can be happy.
I like your Module please dont understand this and dont forget i am not a native Speaker so sometimes it is hard to find the right Words to sound friendly without knowing the right words. All i can do is to say facts with less positive emotions. ;)

I think yours and the other Hack are for different Peoples. You've hit the nail on the head. That is, the 2 modules perform entirely different functions to meet the needs of different users. Each has their advantages and disadvantage. In the case of this module it's totally standalone and doesn't require anything else to be loaded to operate. To me that's a big plus.
I'm certainly not upset about having 2 different modules. The only issue I have is posting on the support threads for this module that "everybody should use the other one" instead of posting in the other thread to bump it to the top.

1. Correct!
2. No then you misunderstand me. I do not mean "everybody" i mean only People with the known Problems i stated before. :)
3. Sure i like to post there but i reported this Module more than one Time to move it to the 2.x Section but the Admin is ignoring this. The 1.x Section is closed - the Hell knows why. ;)

Assuming that the module was uploaded/installed w/o any problems use ACP -> vBa CMPS -> Edit Modules then select the RSS Feed module.

Does the module folder have 777 permissions? Have you successfully uploaded other modules?

No i haven't tried other modules because I don't have any.
Isn't there any other way to correctly install the module manually perhaps?

Tom, working like a charm, one problem though, I have three sites interlinked, but they also have a forum pulling down RSS feeds of latest posts from each other. That is not the problem as I can exclude forums out of the recent posts VBA mod, the problem is how to exclude them from the RSS feeds? Otherwise forum one is showing posts of forums two, but in the RSS feed forum two is showing it's own posts as pulled from forum 1. Confusing? (grin) Let me know as I love this mod, all sites are 3.6.4 Thanks, rg sends!
Tom M

Can you create just the feeds you want that exclude the forums you don't want? This feed would be used only for your new usage. Alternatively, if there's some identifying trait in the data (either the title or description) then you can filter it out using the module.

Looks like I'm the only one who came across this problem.
The module appears to be working except for
Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_VARIABLE in /home/username/public_html/modules/rss_cmps2.php(272) : eval()'d code on line 2
across the top 6 times.

What that says is that you have an error in your Data Modification code. If you'd like to post it I'm sure we can figure it out.

Six items, six errors. Let me work on getting the modification code right and if I run into problems, I'll be back.

http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/teams/chi/photos/rss.xml
without the long description after? You need to extract the correct stuff and then get rid of everything else. Without actually doing the work for you the function you're looking for is preg_replace() (http://us2.php.net/manual/en/function.preg-replace.php).
It's not hard to do but you need to pay attention to the wildcards and extract only what you need.

also, how often does the script refresh the RSS cache? any way to change this time so that pages load faster? edit: doh....nevermind :P

another general question: an RSS feed has a TTL of 5 in the XML, which seems to be slowing down the page (that's refresh every 5 minute, right?). is there anyway override the TTL?

The module uses the TTL as gospel so you might want to contact the feed owner as they're actually causing more traffic and if the feed doesn't update that often it's pretty pointless.
It wouldn't be too hard to add some logic that would do some sort of sanity check to make sure that the refresh time wasn't too small. I'd need to play with it a bit and don't really have the time at the moment.

My guess is that the module is not marked as enabled on the page where it's supposed to display so you might want to double check that.
Files will appear in the cache directory automatically. If there's a problem in that area you will usually get error messages that appear.

Ok, it appears that this is working nicely if I use an feed url like this:

However, if I try to use a feed that is dynamically generated it doesn't even display the module on the page... Somthing like this:

If you could help me get this working I would greatly appreciate it!!
