Group,
In the Global PhotoPost vBGallery Settings there is three sections called Header Replacements, Navbar Replacements, and Footer Replacements.
Could or would someone please give me some examples of when these settings would be of use and what you would or could actually do with them?
I just dont understand what their use is or what you can do with them.
Thanks
Doug

Well Links of course, You dont support the gallery anymore. :D
Besides I would imagine they both work the same anyway since they both are basically code carbon copies just with different features and function, right? :)
But to directly answer your question Kevin, Yes Id like to know how to do this with the Links Directory.
Thanks much

Those settings will prefix any filenames that are listed with that setting and in your header/navbar/footer template with your forum's URL. It's basically a way of allowing users to replace their links with the full URL to the files without having to modify any of their templates.

Brian or Kevin,
Is there any full or detailed documentation on this stuff that I could read up more on and maybe examples?
Im just trying to understand this a little more in depth.
Thanks

No, there is no documentation about those options. I don't really see why there would need to be. They're just simple settings where you can enter filenames that should be prefixed with your forum's URL in the corresponding template.

But what im trying to understand, (why im not getting it yet, I dont know) is what advantage this has, and what effects it has, or when or why you would need to do this in the first place.
Sorry for not understanding this, Im not trying to be difficult, just trying to have a detailed understanding.

By default, vB links to faq.php, register.php, search.php, and etc in the navbar template. Assuming your forums are installed in a folder other than the root directory and your CMPS is in the root directory, then when you click on one of these links from the CMPS it's going to be pointing to /faq.php instead of /forum/faq.php. Instead of having to edit your navbar template and add "/forum/" in front of each filename, the Navbar Replacement option will allow you to enter the filenames that you would like to have prefixed with your forum URL, then the script will automatically prefix them for you with some replacement functions when the CMPS is loaded. We've done the same with the header and footer templates as well since many styles add additonal links in these templates.

Ahh I see.
So this basically would be for someone using a CMPS or Portal then? Not something like in my case where my board is installed at the root directly?

Yes, pretty much. If you have the CMPS and your forums in the same directory then the options aren't really necessary. I think the majority of people will place it in a different directory though, which is when those options are a little more useful. ;)

Brian,
Yes I think your right, it does seem that most people do place their message board in its own folder.
I have found though that my members dont like CMPS or Portals and are always skipping the "main page" anyway so I decided on my new site (replacing phpbb) that I wouldnt use one and just let the message board be the "navigation page" or "main page/home page".
How I am setup is Im only using a message board located in the root directory (domainname.com) and your links directory and Photo posts VB Gallery ,located at /links or /gallery.
So like this...
Domainname.com = Location of my message board.
Domainname.com/links = Location of my links directory.
Domainname.com/gallery = Location of my Gallery.
But anyway what your saying is that because I DONT use a CMPS or a Portal and DONT have my message board located in like say /forums the Global Settings for Header Replacements, Navbar Replacements, and Footer Replacements are of no use to me. :)

Those options would be of no use to you with the CMPS. You will need them for the links directory though since those files are in a different folder.
