Adding News Items ?

Probably seems such a naff question, but here goes.

How do I actually add news items to my main pages, or additional text ?

Is the items added automatically when I create a news item ? Or is there something I need to do.

Also, can I add extra text to the main page, without it actually linking to anything, like an extended welcome message or introduction, or something like that ?

Oh...is there no documentation for the portal ?

To add news, edit your news module through the admin cp and either pick some specific threads to display, or a forum(s) to pull the threads from.
As for adding extra text, just add a new bb code module and add your text in the space provided.
