first of all let me say i love this product, we are wanting to integrate this with our forums, so i grabbed a copy and set forth installing it on our development forums, went through the process of intergrating it with our main index.php so we could show our forums and still have all the little tweaks of vbadvanced, got it all setup as we wanted and gosh it looked awesome, so i got the go ahead to install it on our main site. this is when the issue occurred....

after following all the steps outlined in the manual (remember i already set this up 100% on our dev forums), when integrated with our main index.php file for our forums we get major width issues. it appears as tho the main forums are much larger then they should be thus forcing the left blocks real small and forcing the right blocks off the screen, making it so u have to scroll l/r in order to see the right side blocks. ive been pulling my hair out for days with this, ive tried everything i can think of, at first i thought it was av's in the news module, but after i removed the news and news archive all together with only the calendar on the right side we still have the same issues..

after a little comparing our main site to our dev site i have noticed that the forums home page doesnt compress as much when reducing the size of the browser window compared to our dev site, when shrinking the browser window on the dev site the category and forums text will wrap as much as it has too, but our main site wont do this... also this is with all styles, however if actually viewing a thread itself the main site will compress fully when the browser is reduced in size...

i cant provide a link to our dev forums because they are password protected, however here are links to our main index and the cmps_index file as it is now... i also dont have the index page integration on right now because it looks ugly... any help is appreciated

main site http://forums.f2atv.com/index.php
our cmps as we want it http://forums.f2atv.com/cmps_index.php

maybe having a look at the source of the pages will give some insight to this problem..

thanks in advance

My guess would be that the ad images you have at the top of your page are what's stretching it out.

i appreciate u taking the time to have a look, however i am most certainly positive its not ads as we have the exact same ads setup on our development site, again with no width issues. are there any global forum widths specifically set in the database? or is it possible that globals may possibly reside in the true vb default style, even tho its not set as the default style anymore? we do have some width issues in the original default style for vb if i remember correctly...

thanks again

Those images are the only thing that would cause the page to stretch out. If you start decreasing the window's width you'll see that everything else will condense, except for those.

correct i am aware of that, however take for example the main site, if u condense the page u will see the category strips only condense to about 640w, however if u go to any other link on the site, and condense the page u can see that the category strips condense to about 320 or so....

wish i had a way for u to see or dev site so u could see that its not the ads issue.... nevermind, here is a screenshot for ya

thanks again bro for your time..

here are some more screen shots to show what i am talking about.... the file called devsiteindex.jpg shows how far it will compress, and the mainsiteindex.jpg shows the maximum it will compress... clearly an issue with the main forums index itself, as the dev sites index compresses almost all the way to nothing... id also like to note that one any other page of our main site the categories compress just fine like i need, however i only wanna integrte this into the main index... hence my problem

sorry not trying to be a pain just wanting to make sure u have what u need to try to help me with this...

as a side note i thought it may have also been some of the extremely long forums descriptions we have, however i have taken the longest we have an changed one of our dev site forums to match and it will still compress so much that the text just wraps till its on top of itself... so now i have ruled that out also...

Ok, I think I see the problem now that I checked it in FireFox. The page condenses much more in IE, but in firefox, it looks like the forums with "OraSat3.0-DreamBox-Viewsat-Pansat-Fortec-DigiWave-" are the main cause of the problem. Then the "[06/02/06]coolsat4000/5000..." thread that's showing up as the last post in your first forum is probably contributing some too. It looks like FireFox (and possibly some other browsers) won't break to a new line on the '-' marks in your forum description, where IE will. If you add some spaces in there though that should take care of the problem.

i do believe that is/was the problem sir, i used the text (FTA Discussion: Coolsat-Spacestar-Captive Works-OrasSat5.0- OraSat3.0-DreamBox-Viewsat-Pansat-Fortec-DigiWave- Others) and added it to our dev forums and couldnt get the page to compress properly, so i went in and added spaces before and after all the - signs and then it compressed properly... i will try to make the changes necessary and post the results later tonight...

again i would like to take the time to thank you for yor efforts thus far, its nice to see other forums take the time to help members, they are few and far between these days...

brian after our site admin upgraded us to 3.5.3 last night i made the required changes and got the forums inegrated with the index as seen here (http://forums.f2atv.com ), and looks damn good i think, so i went ahead and created another vbadvanced page so i could add the left side modules to forumdisplay and showthread, however now i got the same width issues there aswell, and as far as i could tell non of the forums or threads have extremely long names/titles like my other problem.... any ideas on that one? lol

thanks again for the time bro...

nevermind, we had a forum name that was really long, and as such made the forum jump menu extremely long which is what was was pushing the forums wide in forumdisplay and showthread.... once changed all is good...

thanks for the great software guys, now if i can just get the site owner to leave the stuff alone and quit playing with it i'll be better... lol
