I tried the links section installed here on this site and I could not get the following to work.

Send to a friend
Subscribe to Link, gave me a datbase error. What does this do anyway? Why would I subscribe to a link?

I am interested in this and want to purcahse this but I have one question that I would like an answer to first. That question is:

Will I be able to fix it so that if I want to I can just click on the link and open it in a new browser? What I mean is that I do not want to click on the link and have a drop down menu. I want to click on it and execute it without a drop down appearing. Will I be able to set this to do this in the ADMIN Options?

anyway of getting a 30 day demo? I would like to see if this is what I actually need before shelling out $30.

Aw crap. Well, PayPal sucks. I can still pay with a CC without signing up to the service, right? I think so...

Actually that was a bit of a turn-off for me too. It's great to have that feature as an option, but ideally I would like the click to take me to the detail page before going to either the site or a popup menu. Maybe with some hacking...

I think the version on here my be a little old. The subscribe link works fine on edmplanet.com, which is running the latest version. Subscribing to a link though is basically the same as subscribing to a thread in vBulletin. When somebody replies to a link, you will be sent an email notification letting you know that there was a reply to the link.
It looks like there may be a slight bug that slipped through with the Send to Friend option. I'm sure it's a simple fix though and I will look into that as soon as I get home.
There is an option in the Admin CP to turn off the drop-down menu when clicking on a link. By default it will take you straight to the 'Show Link Details' page when that is turned off, but it would be fairly simple to have it take you straight to the site instead. You would just need to edit the template, remove the 'do=showdetails' part, and then add 'target="_blank"' inside the <a> tag. ;)

PERFECT. Exactly what I wanted.

Did you mean the version that you're running here may be older than the version we can download, or vice versa?

Is there a working demo anywhere?

The version here is beta 1 I belive, so it's a few versions behind the one that's up for sale. ;)

Your skins will affect the links directory the same way they do the CMPS. ;)

Brian

I want ot make sure I had this clarified. When I mean will there be an uninstall feature. I mean withh it remove the tables and such that it puts in your database?

Brian

It will remove any and all changes to the database, with the exception of the 'adv_setting' and 'adv_settinggroup' tables since these are used by the Links Directory and CMPS (and will be used by future scripts such as the image gallery as well). All entries to these tables will be removed in an uninstall though, so it would leave the tables blank if you do not have the CMPS installed as well. This will not create any problems with upgrading vBulletin or anything like that, otherwise it would not be done this way. ;)

Thank you for you quick responce.

It looks as though you removed the Links from your site here. I don't see it anymore. I would think that if you are trying to sell it you would have a good working copy on here to let use look at?

Brian

Which site? It's still available here (http://vbadvanced.com/links) and a more active example on my personal site (http://edmplanet.com/links/).

I was installing the "links package and following the directions. The odd thing is I am left with 4 files with no instruction to put them anywhere?

Link.php

links_search.php

links_subdcriptions

There are no instruction on where these go, i can speculate, but I rather not.

The instructions clearly state where they go.

Step 3 - Upload Files
Upload the new vBadvanced files and your modified vBulletin files to the directories listed below.

root/forums/admincp - links_install.php, linksadmin.php, index.php, usergroup.php
root/forums/includes - adminfunctions_template.php, adminfunctions_links.php, functions_links.php
root/links/ - Upload this folder and all of it's contents into your root directory

Fiber

It does not mention those files, look again.

Links.php is in a MODCP folder in the download, it does not state to upload that to the current folder forum/modcp

These 2 are in a cron folder, which also does not state if they are supposed to go into the forum/cron folder

links_search.php

links_subdcriptions

I would rather be sure than have to go back and move things all around.

Thanks for pointing that out Fiber. I will update the zip package in just a few minutes to include the instructions for these files. Everything in the 'forums' in the zip should have the same structure as your forum though and go in the same folders.
