just showing the link for the news

how can i make it where instead of showing a little bit of the body of the news i can just make it where they click on a link to view it?

If you want it to look like the latest threads, why not just use that module, or make a copy of the module and use the copy instead? That's what we've done here for our 'Announcements' module on the homepage.
