different skins?

we are looking to purchase the vbulletin board and then use the vbadvanced system, but are concerned about the look, form what we have see it is very plain. Are there any skins to upgrade the look of the vbadvanced stsyem? and if so how can we view these before we purchase?

All vBadvanced products will go by whatever you have vBulletin set up with. If you change the style in vBulletin, the changes will also affect vBadvanced. ;)

Does the company that makes a custom skin (for example extremepixels or vbstyles) have to keep up with your releases of vBadvanced portal OR is it the case that if the skin works with vBulletin it will always work with vBadvanced portal?

The skins will always work with vBa products. You may have to edit some of your image paths, but that should be about it.

Umm, what about having a seperate template system? I am new to content managemnt whichis why i am going to try and hit two birds with one stone here :)

1) I avoided making a new thread because this one ties in and answers some of my questions. Does VB intergrate it self into advanced or the other way around?

2) I was leaning toward the OS Mambo CMS until finding this site. How does this compare with Mambo, with modules, is their a "wrapper" funtion etc. ?

3) is this as easily customizable as a third party CMS?

1). All vBa products use vB as a backend, so you're not going to get tighter integration with any other script.
2). I've never used the script, so I have no idea. Someone else may be able to answer that though.
3). Have you had a look at the admin demo? That will show you how easy it is to move modules and such, plus all modules are in vB's template system.

another question as well. When you say all modules are in vb's template system, does that mean that my portal/cms has to look like my forum.

Just to enlighten you alittle bit on what i'm talking about, so i don't have you running around the dark answering my question ;) What i want is teh ability to convert a pre-made template into this cms (which others do) and also have the ability to put what ever forum skin i buy in to my VB without interupting VBadvanced.

That can be done with mambo or nuke whatever, but i would hate to have to play with multiple brand software.

That's the admin demo. ;)

No, the CMPS does not have to look like your forum. It will when you first install it, but everything can be changed the same way as you can change the vB templates.
There's also an option that may be set on a per-page basis where you can force the CMPS to use a particular style which will override your users' style settings.

There is nothing to convert. :) It will use the actual vBulletin styles. The only thing that you may have to do is to update the images paths to be fully qualified. This is because, for example, if you have your portal page in "/www" and your forums in "/www/forums" then if your image paths are something like this "<img src="images/misc/whatever.gif">" then that will cause problems if you try to use that tag anywhere except in your "/www/forums" folder -- the solution is to simply fully qualify the image paths (eg: <img src="/forums/images/misc/whatever.gif"> or "<img src="http://yoursite.com/forums/images/misc/whatever.gif">)

Mambo is a CMS, vB is a Bulletin Board. Mambo has forum modules and vB has CMS "modules". If your first and most important need is a CMS, go with Mambo. If it is a forum, go with vB.
Either way, go to vbulletin.com and check vB for yourself.

So you should know the answer to this question, i'm sure you realize that there are sites that sell premade skins for nuke, and there are sites that offer the option of converting (normal) premade templates to be used with Mambo.

I want to know how difficult it would be to convert a premade template that i purchased to be converted to vbadvanced :confused:

A few questions for anyone to chime in on, how heavy is this script? I was wondering about hosting costs, and how expensive things can get with a "push cms" like this racking up data :) exp. wtf (http://www.wtf.com) and www.thekryptonian (http://www.thekryptonian.com) sites that i have found through Vb sites using VBadvanced ...

Liquidguy, the questions wouldn't be "Can this skin be converted to vBadvanced?" but really "Can this skin be convereted to vBulletin?".

How "heavy" it is on your server would depend upon what exactly you put on the portal. A default CMPS install will do only do (if memory serves correctly) around 9-10 queries but if you add more modules then more queries.
