I'm a noob when it comes to vB. I don't want to waste a lot of time trying to figure this out so I've come to ask.
I want to be able to have a news forum where only I can add news items and then they would display on my index.htm and people will be able to comment on them. How do I do that and integrate the forum into my homepage design?
Any help is very much appreciated.

To rephrase, how can I make the cmps_index.php file look exactly like my index.htm file with the same graphics and css layout. I tried copying cmps_index.php code over to the .htm file but it broke the dynamic functions obviously. Thanks for any help.

No way of anybody to answer this question without seeing your current home page.

OK. Basically I want this http://forums.nushift.net/cmps_index.php content to appear here http://www.nushift.net/ inside the main container where the text is. I'm sure it's something easy to do, but I just haven't figured it out yet.

Well, for starters, you need to edit various templates. One major template being adv_portal_newsbits.
Or better yet, I'd edit your adv_portal_module_shell template
And its really just learning how to edit your templates really. And I don't know exactly what techniques you are using to build your current index.
Personally, I'd turn navbar ON and aim to have the TOP ONLY of your page match your forums TOP.
You gotta start with playing around and editing your module_shell template though and learn from there.
And as for ONLY YOU can type "news", thats easy.
You have to create a forum section within your forums and have the permissions set that ONLY ADMINS can post NEW threads to it. Then with your vBadvanced NEWS module, you just tell it to "snag" threads as "news" from this permissioned lock down forum section that only Admins can post NEW THREADS into.
Make sense?

Mortys ~
Is there a way to hide or make this 'news' forum invisible to the end users?
thanks!

Ya, its all part of the permissions thingies in the vBulletin Forums Permissions
AdminCP>Forums & Moderators>Forum Permissions
Scroll to the News Forum you created.
And you'll need to go through each "member group" that you want to make this invisible to. Do not touch the ADMIN category cuz you might blank it from yourself if you haven't made yourself a SuperAdmin.
Then the first 3 options are a YES or NO on "viewing"
Set them to NO.
Then back in your
AdminCP>vBa CMPS>Edit Pages>PAGE_YOU_HAVE_YOUR_NEWS_ ON
scroll down to the block of your "News" where you chose which forum threads are to be displayed as NEWS. About 9 rows down from that list you chose the thread, you'll see the option of APPLY FORUM PERMISSIONS. Make sure you have that set to NO
I believe that should do the trick.
You're probably going to want to edit the vBadvanced template for the NEWS since its going to show by default how many replies there are, (which would be none in your case) and also would give the REPLY option, which you don't want since you are making it so users can't even see the forum. But you may have already taken care of this. :p
