View Full Version : Various width problems

I have various width problems.

1.) F.e. main portal page. In IE looks fine, with Firefox the center (custompage) is smaller and the left column is wider then the right column.

2.) In the forums themselves, display in both browsers is fine when looking at the main page or thread list. But when looking at the thread itselve, and with posting a new thread or replying to it, the thread-column suddenly is smaller and does not line up with the rest anymore.

How can I fix both these problems?

Update your firefox browser, mine did that same thing till I updated it.
as for the second question what are you talking about the way the forums look? or the way the most recent post looks in the home page?

I've got the latest Firefox 1.5.0.6 so updating is not the solution.

As well as question 1 and 2 I'm talking about how the width looks.
My forums are at www satellitefun org. That's the portal.

For the 2nd question, you can see how the width of the main (forum) column just collapses a little (goes a bit smaller) when looking a particular thread (and replying and/or posting) which does not happen on the forumdisplay and threadlist display.
I hope I could explain it a little better this time.

I am getting a similar error but with IE. I am not using the center module space at all. Only the left and right (I am sure they is why it isnt working). But for Firefox it works fine and for IE it squashes everything (www.shoresofglory.org). Also, when I am trying to do a custom block for the right side it makes the left side big (http://www.shoresofglory.org/forum/index.php?page=about).

I'm having similar issues. Portal page looks fine in IE at 1280x1024. Looks somewhat clunky in FF at 1280x1024. Looks iffy in IE at 1024x768, looks awful in FF at 1024x768.

Looks like satellitefun.org is now working fine in both browsers at both resolutions; what was your fix?

(my site is right here (http://www.montgomerybikers.com/index2.php))

Urg. That was dumb. It was caused by my news articles module. There was a news article with a URL that was a few hundred characters wide, and that was futzing up the whole page.

I put in a character limit for news articles now that should help, but I wonder if there isn't a better way to hardcode how wide the module can get, even if there is an unbroken word in the module that is wider than the module size itself.

Huh? Well it still does not look fine.
The first forum look is fine. Threadview is fine, but when looking at postview, making a reply or edit, the width gets smaller.

In Firefox the main page still has that wide left column.
I work in a resolution of 1280x768 and a friend of mine has the same problem with firefox but I don't know which resolution he uses.
Have a good look at the main page. It seems it's fine in Firefox, but still left side still is wider.

I changed nothing and was still waiting for an answer here, but I'm thinking of uninstalling this one and going to vbplaza or something because of the lack of support of VBA.

Trying to *bump* this again...
Still not fixed, still no idea what's causing the problem.

Your main page looks the same to me under FF and IE.
For the showthread page, try editing your postbit template and remove the $spacer_open and $spacer_close variables.

The source of your page is showing some javascript code at the very top, but it needs to be placed either between the <head> </head> tags, or perhaps after the <body> tag.

Thanks I will try that.
Very odd by the way, I subscribed to this thread with direct email, but I never got an email that there were reply's written...

Hi, sorry but I'm back again.

I'm running 3.6.3, I just looked and there aren't any $spacer_open and $spacer_close lines in the postbit template.

Furthermore the answer you gave about Firefox is not correct either. The main portal page, so my main domain name, in Firefox 1.5.0.6 the left columns -are- wider then then right ones compared to IE.
This is with a resolution of 1280x768. However you have to be logged in to see those columns.

So maybe you can give me other options to fix both issues?
