I run a gaming site diablo3.com, we have been using vba for a while. The game we are covering hasn't even been announced yet, so right now we are at our slowest peroid. Which is around 50-60 users online and already has peaked at 394 online. We get 25+ new members a day. When the game is announced we will see a massive jump in traffic and 1000-1500 users online wont be unheard of. It will increase even more once the game is out and people are looking for game guides and everything.

My question is this, Ive been looking and havn't seen many very large sites using this CMS, can someone direct me to some large sites? My server was already having some problem when we had 400 users online and before I start developing mods and content using CMS I need to make sure this wont kill my server.

In all fairness, with that domain (if you can keep it, I believe Blizzard will at one point ask for the domain back, if not well that is a sweet domain) I would buy a script, nothing agains vbadvanced, but there are some very good comercial scripts out there that look a lot better.

I would do a lot more with that domain, invest some money... I'll keep an eye on you I want to know if Blizzard let's you keep the domain. :D
Oh and before you think I talk out of my ass, I work for Blizzard, not in the games development but in "some other sector", I have however testlead the german version of Warcraft3 the frozen thrown (Its the only game I worked on an I'm proud of my name beeing in the Credits and in the booklet :) )
Again... I would kill for that domain

Those are a couple of the larger sites that I'm aware of off the top of my head. The CMPS can vary as far as server intensity depending on a number of things (custom modules, size of database, etc). It's certainly going to be more intensive than something like a static .html page or the default vB forum index because there is a lot more information that's being displayed. Quite a bit of work has gone into optimizing things though so that it can run on sites like I posted above. If you don't add any custom modules or much more than what you have now, I wouldn't expect you to have any problems. If you do though, we'll be around to help. :)

Hey there, thanks for the reply. I actually decided to use VBA for the site. However, Im going to tone it down a lot, pretty much the entire left side will be a static menu, Im just going to pretty much be using the news modual, and ability to add custom pages.

For gallery I will use photopost, and ecdownloads for files.
I use to run diablo2.com for a long time, blizzard never contacted me about the domain then. Blizzard usually is very supportive of the fan sites and aslong as I dont have hacks or related stuff on it I'm not worried about them.

Yes, if the game gets announced, instantly there will be 1000+ users online, and it will just keep growing after the game is released.

I also have some other domains... like...WORLDOFWARCRAFT2.ORG WARCRAFTIV.COM, ELDERSCROLLSV.COM, EVEONLINE2.NET, EVEONLINEII.COM EVERQUESTIII.COM GUILDWARSII.COM
LINEAGETHREE.COM NEVERWINTERNIGHTS3.COM NINTENDOGS2.COM
SPORE2.NET STARCRAFTTWO.COM WORLDOFWARCRAFTTWO.COM.

My basic plan is to start a network to take on IGN in the future =) A single major fansite can have stats around 100+ thousand users, 1000+ online.
