link directory to show as a category?

Is there a way to have the link directory appear as another forum on the main forum? This way when some one adds a link or comment, the category will show something new has been added.

There's not a default option for anything like that, but if you're familiar with PHP then it probably wouldn't be that hard to create a plugin.
