vBadvanced is proud to announce the release of vBadvanced CMPS v3.0 RC1. The newest version has been in the works for quite a while and we feel that it addresses most of the problems or limitations from previous versions. Below is a complete list of what's new in v3.0.

Key Changes
Modules can now be freely placed and moved around on a per-page basis. As a result of this, the "Column" and "Display Order" settings for modules have been removed as they are no longer necessary.
Options to copy the module layout from another page when adding or editing pages, along with a section to allow you to copy the layout from one page to multiple pages.
Adding new columns or "locations" for modules is now as easy as changing a setting and adding a variable to the 'adv_portal' template to determine where the modules for that location will be displayed.
Integration with other vBulletin files and hacks can now be done through the Admin CP with no file modifications required.
Options to allow you to quickly add a specific module to multiple pages.

Modules
Mini Calendar
Option to include birthdays with events.
Option to cache events and other calendar data, preventing 4-5 queries this module can use to gather event data.

News
Better handling of stripping HTML tags from news posts preventing the possibility of HTML tags being cut off pre-maturely.
The "Show Avatars" User CP option will now be taken into account and hide avatars for users who do not have that option enabled.
The "Show Images (including attached images and images in [IMG] code)" User CP option will now be taken into account and hide images and attachments for users who do not have that option enabled.
Option to show the attachment "paperclip" image if the thread includes attachments.
Option to enable the [ATTACH] tag within news posts.

News Archive
Option to enable/disable the number of views (previously could not be disabled within the settings).
Option to enable/disable the number of replies (previously could not be disabled within the settings).
Option to show the user who started the thread (previously could not be disabled within the settings).
Option to show the date and time the thread was started (previously could not be disabled within the settings).
Option to show the threads rating (previously based on the News module's setting).
Option to show the threads icon (previously based on the News module's setting).
Option to show the "subscribed" icon if the user is subscribed to the thread (previously based on the News module's setting).
Option to show the "sticky" icon with threads that have been stickied.
Option to show links to multiple pages if the thread spans more than one page.
Option to show the attachment "paperclip" image if the thread includes attachments.

Recent Threads
Database thread marking system now works better to display new threads in bold.
Option to show the "sticky" icon with threads that have been stickied.
Option to show links to multiple pages if the thread spans more than one page.
Option to show the attachment "paperclip" image if the thread includes attachments.

Site Navigation
The page you are currently viewing now appears in bold text.
Links added in the "Additional Links" setting will now accept PHP code and variables (useful to allow you to prefix forum links with {$vbulletin->options[bburl]}, or any other variables).
"Additional Pages" setting now has an "Add More" link using javascript to easily allow you to add more inputs without having to save the page.

Welcome Block
Option in the Welcome Block module to enter your own URL to the noavatar.gif. Also accepts PHP variables allowing you to use the same image for multiple styles, or use a style folder variable.
The "Show Avatars" User CP option will now be taken into account and hide the avatar in this module for users who do not have that option enabled.
Better handling of the new posts count, making sure that this count is reset when forums are marked as read.

Admin CP
The main "Edit Modules" page has been changed to list each module in a new row showing the module's title, active status, controls (copy, delete, add/remove from pages), type, and the page(s) it is active on.
"Default Settings" page now shows a list of setting groups and module's that have settings (more like the vBulletin Options link), making it easier to navigate to the settings you wish to edit.
Javascript "check-all" boxes throughout for the permissions settings.
Preview option for BB Code modules and pages.
Footer rows with "Save" buttons added to pages that may contain a lot of settings, allowing you to easily save the page without scrolling or using your keyboard.
The "Advanced Options" section when editing a page now shows a list of setting groups and modules with a + image next to the title allowing you to expand the settings for that group or module. This prevents the page from getting extremely long when there are a lot of settings, and makes it easier to find the exact group or module you are looking for.
More obvious messages with settings descriptions reminding you that the setting has been customized within specific pages if applicable.
New option within the "Module Wrapper Template" (formerly Module Shell Template) options to collapse modules by default.
New option to allow you to specify a different "Module Wapper Template" on a per-module basis.
More options to handle duplicate filenames and templates when uploading modules.
Over 50 hook locations making things even easier to customize for developers.
"Templates Used" setting for PHP file modules changed to separate template names with a carriage return (new line) instead of a comma, making it a little easier to view the templates listed.
New PHP file module options to initialize the BB code parser, forum permissions, moderator cache, and ignored/tachy'd users. This helps to improve performance on CMPS pages that may not use one or all of these.
Options within the Welcome Block, Recent Threads, and News Archive modules allowing you to change between a "lean" and "expanded" version of the templates, or have the CMPS dynamically select the best template to use based on the size of the column the module is placed in.

Back-end / Miscellaneous Changes
'adv_portal_shell' template has been renamed to 'adv_portal_wrapper'.
latesttopics.php has been renamed to recentthreads.php.
New "serialized" column added to the 'adv_settings' table, allowing you to automatically serialize the setting in the database. Also automatically unserializes the setting in the settings cache, preventing the function from having to be called within the files.
The default CMPS homepage data is now cached and processed in the datastore table to prevent a query to gather this data.
Permissions and template lists are pre-formatted when the module cache is updated, saving processing power on the front-end of the program.
BB Code module options (the 'options' column in the 'adv_modules' table) now stored as an integer instead of a serialized array. Also used to store the new PHP file module options. Related to this, the 'cleanoutput' column has been removed and is now included in the bitfields with this column.
adminfunctions_vba_cmps.php file has been renamed to vba_cmps_adminfunctions.php in order to keep the same prefix for all CMPS files in this folder.

What is the difference between the modules
in the "extras, do not upload" folder and
the modules in the modules-folder in forum directory?

Some of the module names are the same.

Brian

RobDog888 - I'm not sure if it has specifically been tested with 3.6.7, but it has been tested with 3.6.6. There were no major changes between .6 and .7, so there should not be any issues with the CMPS.

HenrikHansen - There's a readme.txt file in that folder that explains things. ;)
This folder includes a backup of all of the default CMPS modules. If you accidentally delete a default module, simply upload the .module file found in this folder through your 'Upload / Download Module' link in your Admin CP.

vBadvanced is proud to announce the release of vBadvanced CMPS v3.0 RC1.

What does RC1 stand for?

RC1 stands for release candidate 1

I just uploaded the files and selected to upgrade, and I was surprised it went so smoothly. It seems the queries on the page went from the usual 29 to 23 after the upgrade.

Glad to hear it. :)

It seems the queries on the page went from the usual 29 to 23 after the upgrade.
1 would be from the homepage now being cached.
If you have the mini calendar enabled, 4 of the queries from it are now cached.
Not too sure about the other one off the top of my head.

Thanks. Yes if it works on 3.6.6 then it should on .7 :)

Will a "upgrade" work without lost of data? Will the URL structure be the same like in 2.2.1 (Use vBSEO with CRR /info/pagename.html).

Could I use it brandingfree - I paid for in janurary?

Brian
05-18-2007, 03:55 PM
Upgrading will not cause you to lose any of your data. I'm not positive about the URL structure since that's not a default feature, but there's nothing that's changed with the pages that would affect those that I'm aware of.
Yes, your branding free license will apply to v3.0 as well.

The upgrade went very smooth. Thanks Brian.

I do have one question at this point. In the settings, there are the red boxes that say "This setting has been customized in the following page(s): "

I'm not sure if I'm supposed to do something to revert something or not...

Brian
05-18-2007, 04:12 PM
That part still works the same as it did before really, the messages are just more obvious now. If you want to revert the any settings on a page, just edit that page through the Admin CP, scroll down to the "Advanced Options" section, and you should see the options to revert or "Use Default" there.

seem to have one issue with bbcode tags

url here

tends to LITERALLY show up in the news areas, instead of loading the picture. Double checking in the forum package, these images load fine.

Bug or Me?

http://www.yafterhours.com/cmps_index.php
(here's the devel addy, we're running 3.6.7)

one more thing, on the permissions for the news area, Allow [IMG] Code and Allow BB Code are both enabled ...

Brian

kristoff - I'm not really sure what could cause that off the top of my head. Would you mind submitting a support ticket via the Members' Area here so I can take a look?

Conspiracy :(
A week ago I see a wonderful vB Portal over at vBDesigns and decide I like it that much I'm prepared to pay for the extra useability it offered my community. A couple of days later this upgrade appears with the same useability.

Will be reverting to vBA as I know the coding, like the feel and am well pleased with the improved functionality.
Great stuff Brian

Oooh!

A question, does this still have the APC issues?

Brian

kall - That should have been fixed a version or two ago, and as far as I'm aware, it should still work fine with v3.0.

Nice work Brian!

Though, I'll add in a request that I have been meaning to mention: On the "Latest Threads" module, it needs to support showing the Down Arrow icon in front of the thread title if the thread contains new posts, so you can jump right to the new posts like on a normal thread listing. :D

I have an odd question. I am running 3.6.4 VB and the old version of CMPS. I think its best to upgrade them both, does anyone know which is best to upgrade first? Can I even do that? Do I have to remove CMPS before I upgrade VB???

Brian
05-21-2007, 01:33 PM
Conq - I'll see if I can work that into the next release. :)

dgsmith - It's usually best to upgrade vB first, and then any vBa products afterwards. No, you do not have to remove the CMPS to upgrade vB.

Brian

I have updated to this and running version 3.6.7 of vBulletin. On the index I now get this message:

Fatal error: Call to undefined function: print_portal_output() in /home/corsac/public_html/index.php on line 47

Also in the index.php I had to edit two lines to include the full url, ie... http://www.corsa....... instead of just "./global.php -- Hope that makes sense, and not sure why I had to.

Can someone help with the initial problem as to what that line means to.

Thanks
Darren

Awesome upgrade! Smoothest I have ever done.

I did have to edit the cmps_index.php to include the word holiday in the phrasegroup array again

$phrasegroups = array('holiday');

So I am not sure if this can be placed elsewhere or not. I use this for my calendar module

Updated and switched back to 2.x Series.

At first the new AdminConfiguration of vBA is like Hell in my Eyes. To much changes in handling and in most Parts very confusing for me.

At second only the Portal still works after Updating and my Forum looks like absolutely blank. Only navbar and footer is shown. I have to make a full Backup for Rollback.

Sorry but i dont have to the Time at this Moment for Troubleshooting to tell you more - for me i will wait for the Final before Updating.

Upgraded no bother but then had problems with the new integration (now figured out though).

Tip: if you rewrite urls make sure you integrate using the THIS_SCRIPT options rather than filenames... DOH!
