I currently use vbportal and althought it's nice and has nice features but for some reason it's not as well intergated. So I wanted to see if vBa works out better because if it does then I would rather to switch over.
- How do styles work out on vBa. (vbportal requires a style with too many changes)
- Would I be able to create my own modules with php or html?
That's mostly the only 2 questions I can think of right now:)

- vBa CMPS uses the same styles as your normal VB styles. Each module (each "square" on the home page) is done via templates so you can further customize if you want.
- Yes. :D Just check out some of the mods in the mods' forum to get an idea.

vBportal, is built ontop of phpnuke or post nuke, either way, both are very bloated peices of coding and no one will ever convicne me otherwise, vBportal, is an intergration of vB and php/post nuke.
vBa is built from vBulletin directly, there is no merging of programs, vBa and all of its programs are built for vBulletin and nothing else.

That sounds great guys, I'm going to start setting up for a transfer from vbportal because it causes too many problems for me and this one is free.

I'm a recent convert. I used vbPortal for about 2 years. I liked the features...but hated the templates and being dependent upon others for skinning (because the template/style system is exhaustive and not very user-friendly).
vBa does away with all that...like Zach said above...it is built from vb...so styles are never a problem...in fact...it is a solution.
As far as functionality, both have their pros and cons just like any other portal out there. IMO, vBa has more pros though. ;) There are plenty of modules already, and many more on the way.
I am glad I saw the light before it was too late. ;)

I too was a vbportal junkie until vBa!
Personally, while vBa is still somewhat "slim" in features, it is FAR more user friendly than vbPortal ever was - allowing users who are not quite so familiar with coding (such as myself) to enhance vBa with new addons and quick integration with vBulletin.
Ive been a contributing member of vbPortal for a few years now, but their software just isnt up to par for my taste - and as Zachery said, vbPortal is still the result of several other large code products, causing it to be bloated and un-friendly to the common user.

Regardless of what you WANT to tell me, it is still based of the nuke styled coding, you can argue with me till ends wit, but it is STILL and always HAS been based on that coding, regardless if they recoded the whole program, it still runs and acts like (php/post)nuke

vbportal is a content management and portal that integrates tightly with vbulletin.
Sorry... I generally try to keep my comments/thoughts to myself about things such as this, but vBportal (at least the version shown on their site) does not integrate tightly with vBulletin. Perhaps we have different definitions of the word, but for someone to say it integrates tightly then I would expect, at least, for the output of the script to look like vBulletin - which it does not. And I'm not sure what they've changed in the newer versions, but the last I checked vBportal had a LOT of unnecessary queries.

It integrates with vbulletin users, cookies, themes, threads, posts, events, birthdays, polls, statistics and doesn't use a lot of unnecessary querys anymore. Remember how many vbulletin 1.0 used and how different it was, well vbp3.0 is very different from 2.x and very very different from the very old 8.1x (written 5 years ago).
If your opinion is honest and based on honest experience of vbportal 3.0 for vbulletin 3.0 fair do.I have used both vPortal and CMPS. I personally like CMPS. It is far less bloated.

@lol,
While I can respect your backing of vbportal (6 months ago, I would be doing the same) as it IS fairly good software, it's really not right to argue that vbportal has a long way to go before one can really call it software that "tightly" integrates with vbulletin.
While the code for the latest version has been wholefully rewritten, there are still extensive queries on the database that could otherwise be done other ways. Weeman and the rest of the dev's are quite aware of this - but at the moment, its work that still needs done.
Skin support is far from being friendly. Proof shows by looking at the work needed to integrate ANY skin (other than default, which has been supplied with the install).
Just my 2 cents. I've been a vbportal user & contributing member for 2 years now and through my experience, vbAdvanced far surpasses my needs and fully allows me expand at will.
VbA dont have a LOT of bonus features, however, it allows the community to [relatively] easily generate fully functional "addins", making it again, much more beneficial to administrators & end users.
Not to mention instant support for your forum skins (most of the time).
