View Full Version : Does the board need to be shut off while uploading vBa?

I just downloaded vBa and want to start working on putting a homepage to my forums. Right now, there's just a redirect right to the forums. But do I need to shut the board down and such before starting or what?

The forums just started so membership is still in the low teens but I'm just kind of paranoid I guess. I don't want someone to show up and be confused as to what's going on while I go through the upload and install.

Am I at all clear or am I being an idiot? :)

You can work on the page all you want and no one can see it because it is named cmps_index.php

Once you are ready for the CMPS to be your home page, simply rename it and save to your domain root.

So to answer your question, no, you shouldn't have to shut down the board in anyway while working on it.

If you want to check your progress, just put the page addy in the address bar.

www.yourwebsite.com/forums/cmps_index.php?page=yourpagetitle

This is assuming your CMPS was loaded in your forums folder (which seems to work really well)

I think I see. So when first uploaded I upload it to my /forum/ directory. I work on it there. Then when it's the way I want it, I rename it index.html or whatever, transfer it to the root directory, and the change is seamless.

I'm guessing that I need to change a few settings when I transfer it to my root though since it was originally in a different directory and thus everything is based on being in that directory?

If you're planning on using it in your root directory, then just upload the cmps_index.php file there there the first time (no need for moving it). The only setting that would need to be changed if you change the location of the cmps_index.php file is the 'CMPS URL' one listed under your main CMPS setttings.
