Hi,
I've heard that vBa will soon have an integrated gallery. Is there any time estimate for when this will be complete? Thank you!
Brian

Yes, we will have a gallery available soon. Sorry, but there is no time estimate for when it will be complete though... I've learned not to give dates for releases anymore because that always seems to guarantee that the script won't be released anywhere near that time. ;)

Thank you - I fully understand. Just wondering if I should purchase photopost or wait a month or two.

I would wait. As I am waiting.

Well i doubt it will take anymore than a month from now to release ;p

heh I wouldnt discount any kind of timeframe here....
thus is the nature of this kind of thing.
I am also in a holding pattern, mainly because anything good is pretty expensive, and anything cheaper can't be integrated too well. I also have much respect for the CMPS and so trust brian to know how to fill a void in the vb marketplace.
Truth be told, I think its probably further away than even Brian thinks right now -- the devil is in the details.
Something often 'looks' much more complete than it actually is, allowing even the author to sit back, be a bit pleased with himself, and say "wow I'm almost done" -- when in fact there's still a lot of detail and testing yet to come.
Nevertheless, I wait... because at this stage I have that flexibility.

Any chance there will be a PhotoPost to vBa Gallery conversion utility when it's finished? I'm currently using PhotoPost, but I don't like it. I'd jump at a chance to switch to a vBa Gallery :D
(oh, and Brian, in case you didn't see another post I made a few weeks ago - I'd PAY to be a beta tester) [not so subtle hint]

A question for you photopost users - why make the switch to vba gallery? Has photopost been a good product?

I like photopost, however it's not directly written for vBulletin - so full integration is impossible, and upgrades can be a nightmare. Other than that, its reasonable software

I too am looking forward to this, because today I was thinking about getting PhotoPost, but as they say its not a fully integrated add on, but I do like its features.
What features will the vBadvanced gallery have? and will be comparable to the features and options that PhotoPost has ?
Also I am not after a release date, but I would like to know a rough time frame? 1 month, 3 months? 1 year ;)
Edit:
Is this gallery going to be a pay to use option? I do not mind if it is, but as for beta testing... I'd like to offer my services as a beta tester ;) :D

Yes, Brian stated before there will be a nominal fee to use the Gallery..

super, Brian, make it, code it, make it nice and just as good as PhotoPost but better integration etc etc etc, and consider a couple of licences sold to me ;)

Ugh! vBa Gallery... uhmmmm (insert here Homer Simpson voice and pose...).
After a full week messing with vB templates and modules for CMPS. I'm starting to feel brave enough to install vBa Links, vBa Gallery and vBa ..... (insert your preferred module here). :D (why not something like vBaarticles... Hint, hint, hint) :rolleyes:
Bravo! Brian for doing such incredible script (I refuse to call it a hack). Will take a weekend far from computers, templates, modules and such... Monday will order vBa Links and start installing and modifying Pro Pkg from vBnl.

Just for the record, you have another user that will definately be on board once its ready.
I got VBA because my PHP NUKE site was erased with no notice, and I had to rebuild. I literally had thought of attempting a VB/Main site merger the day before that happened. Within a couple of days, I have VBA, V3Articles, VBA_Links, and a ton of hacks installed and working. Just tweaking right now. For the ease and integration all these items have installed with (tho still killing me with time 30 hour coding sessions), Im planning on being a VBA supporter to the core. Lets just hope my DB doesnt explode when this goes live :)
Thanks, and keep up the good work!
PS, yes I know V3 isnt a VBA product, but, hopefully the V3 modules will be wrapped around it in an hour or so :)

I hope this vba gallery will store the photos/images in the file system and not in the database :)
Brian
08-28-2004, 01:35 AM
Right now it stores them as files, but there will most likely be an option so that you may choose to store them in the database instead. ;)
Sanjiyan
08-28-2004, 07:19 AM
no no leave them as files :) much better and safer too :)
Brian
08-28-2004, 01:45 PM
If I add support to store them in the database then there will be an option to choose where you would like to store them. ;)

brian, do you have a ball park time frame?
Brian
08-28-2004, 05:00 PM
I really shouldn't say anything since that almost always guarantees that something happens and I'm not able to finish it up... Hopefully it will be available within about a month though. I've still got a few more features to add plus quite a bit of code to clean up, and then it will be going into beta testing.

No, he's smart to do so.......... I would have bought another gallery had I not known there would be a vba one coming --- so he would have lost a possible sale had I not known.

Uhm... but doing an early announce of vbaGallery puts more stress on it to finish their work and looking how fine is vBadvanced CMPS I expect no more than a incredible product when is released.
I will pick it when it releases, but if the release is tomorrow much better than the next month.
Regarding their bills... for sure he will earn a lot of money when it releases... but that's a personal matter of Brian and shouldn't be discussed here... :)

Well Brians going to have about 4 sales via me I recon. Just put vbavanced CMPS on my site and I love it. Already bought links and probably going to need another copy in a day or two.

Exactly... I don't mind mentioning something that's in the works. I've just learned my lesson about mentioning expected release dates. ;)

Uhm... Bryan... how about releasing a version 'as is' with the actual limitations of the script (think about a teaser of the RC versions...). Many people here (me too) wants to add a gallery to their site and don't want to shell lots of bucks for photopost or other products with loose integration with vB/vBa.
Have my paypal payments window opened awaiting it. :D :D :D

Hell even telling us what possible costs you will be charging for this, would be nice, so we all know where we stand in how much this will cost.

Whoa that was a close call, I almost purchased Photopost after searching for months for a good gallery to integrate. I was going to settle for Photopost, but while searching this site for info on how to integrate it I stumbled upon this new vbadvanced gallery that is in the works. You should mention it on the front page to help prevent others from making the mistake that I almost did. I'm eagerly looking forward to helping test it out if needed. I'll also be in line that first day it hits RC. Thanks for all the great work!!
Just a couple of questions:
- will it support having a random image or newest image display on the front page of vbcmps?
- will the person uploading the images have the option to choose an image to display as a thumbnail in the list of galleries or will it just be a text list like on the edmplanet site?
- will there be support for keywords like on your links addon?
Thanks for filling in the empty spaces and provide such great scripts!! What's next a full webmail script?

Personally Ihope it has all the same features of PhotoPost and then more :)
I found out in PhotoPost the ability for a admin to turn a photo that was in a gallery to act as the image (small) that was displayed on the main listing of the galleries, that I loved and I hope it will be in this version of it also.
But Brian, how about you show us some screenshots of what you currently have, as to keep us all on our soon to be coming vbaGallery fix ;)
I liked the Photoposts option for its users to have both either a public or private (password protected) album in their personal galleries is this going to be option in this version?
I do hope so, because then I can use it to upload my holiday photos and allow family access to view them via a password, so they do not have to sign up to the forums and me make a private group for them to move into just so they can see the photos etc.
Any chances on a feature list also? keep us all happy so we know what will be in the vbagallery etc (even if its a rough draft of a feature list) :)
One thing that I don't like about Photopost, Reviewpost and vbLinks, is that it doesn't integrate with the structure of the board.
This is my current setup:
* Main Category
- Forum1
- Forum2
- Forum3
* Category 2
- Forum4
- Forum5
* Category 3
- Forum6
It would be fantastic if vBa Gallery would be able to use the category system of vBulletin, so that the result could look like this:
* Main Category (vBulletin)
- Forum1
- Forum2
- Forum3
* Category 2 (vBa Gallery)
- image forum 1
- image forum 2
* Category 3
- Forum4
This way the gallery really is a part of your board, instead of a gallery system with the same look as vBulletin and a shared admin/database, but hidden as a link in the navbar

- will it support having a random image or newest image display on the front page of vbcmps?
Creating a module for this will be very easy and I'm sure I'll release one shortly after the script is released. :)
- will the person uploading the images have the option to choose an image to display as a thumbnail in the list of galleries or will it just be a text list like on the edmplanet site?
I haven't added this option yet, but it *most likely* will be added.
- will there be support for keywords like on your links addon?
Yes.
I liked the Photoposts option for its users to have both either a public or private (password protected) album in their personal galleries is this going to be option in this version?
Most likely. :)

As soon as I have one together and figure out where I'm going to stop (for now at least) with the features then I will post one. :)

I am certainly interested in this too Brian... looking forward to seeing it.
I'm interested in this too...
I have a few questions:
- will you (administrator) be able to add extra (descriptive) fields to an image submission? If so, can you set these extra fields as searchable as well?
- will you be able to give different access and limit permissions for different usergroups? For example, while users from a group can have personal albuns, users from other groups would not have; limit the number of images (or size of files); etc...
Thanks

just one more question about the gallery:
will there be an option for a specified usergroup to upload a whole album under moderation?
and also a auto resize script including an option to insert a watermark or something
that would be great :)
btw: sorry for my bad english ;(
