If i pay for VBadvanced to be installed, what sort of layout can i expect, is there a standard arrangement ?

The default layout will be setup something like this (http://www.vbadvanced.com/index.php?page=demo), though the module locations will not be in the exact same places (the locations can of course be changed via the Admin CP). You would also need to edit the settings for the news module to select what threads or forums to display threads from before the news or news archive modules you see on that page would be active on your site.
