I have a few hundred files that I want to only be accessible to members of my forum. Is there a way to put these files in a folder or somewhere, but not as attachments, and then add a separate search (also only accessible to members) that can search inside the files (.pdf, .doc, .ppt etc).
If anyone knows of a way to do one or both that would be great.
thanks

make a single forum about it, then you put the permissions for that forums only by not letting unregistered ppl see the forum.

If you did that then it would have to be as attachments, something the first poster specified he or she did not want to do.

This is something I wouldnt mind forward to finding one of the days too...

Maybe Brian could look at it or something? Ultimately it would still be possible to download the file from the URL location to that file if you knew the extact filename and directory structure, but maybe if it was done in a vB way, vB could mangle the filename to something random, and then use its database to match it up or something.... ?

That's why you would put the files below your web root.
