This doesn't look to search engine friendly for a link unless I am missing something:

showlink.php?do=showdetails&l=2&catid=4

The only thing that generaly makes links not SE freindly is a session id, which that does not ahve.

Hi Brian,

I've been looking to buy your software (VbLinks and Vbgallery).
I was wondering if you could show us whether all your products (including VBadvanced CMPS although it's free) are search engine friendly.

I'd buy them straight away if you could show me some prove, you can pm me if you like. I look forward to your reply. Thanks in advance.

Cheers,
Poseoff

Hi zachery,

Thanks very much for your prompt reply.
One more question, does Vbadvanced integrate nicely with Vbulletin (version 3.0.3)?

It only works with vBulletin, it is built off of vBulletin, if there is no vBulletin then vBadvanced is useless, so yes ;)

And how is that not search engine friendly?

uuhhh, the SE probably will not make it past the ? hence the reason people use url rewrite mods. And at that point will not follow the link.

I thought that vBulletin itself is not that SE friendly and that that's why they have the archives that contains static pages?? I hope I am wrong, lol.

I am still not convinced that the lins in vBadvanced Links Directory are SE friendly..

vBulletin itself isn't very search engine friendly indeed (except the archive ofcourse, but in fact that's also a bad thing). But those links aren't a problem. Nowadays SE's haven't got any problems with .php url's. Ofcourse .html url's are a bit better because they can contain keywords, but there's nothing wrong with .php url's (without session id's) :)

The vBadvanced software is just like the vBulletin software: not bad for SE's, but there's also nothing special for SE's (semantics, .html url's with keywords, ...). One good thing about vBadvanced (CMPS and maybe also the Links directory): you can specify a meta description and keywords for every page.

vBulletin is insanely search engine friendly, theres no CRURL's but its still has come a long way.

uuhhh, the SE probably will not make it past the ? hence the reason people use url rewrite mods. And at that point will not follow the link.

I understand your concern and know that it stems from the myth that SE's do not like funny charactors or ? in the url. While that may or may not have been true years ago, in the past 2 years any way I have NOT seen any credibly proof to that and in fact see sites and pages get deep indexed with funny charactors. VB even without "search engine friendly" enabled *will* get insanely indexed!

You are under the impression that unless the url ends in .html, .html that some how SE's are not able to index them. It's not your fault as this is a very wide spread myth even in seo forums! But again, there is NO proof to substantiate that claim!

Here is a example taken from of all forums a phpbb script with NO mods whatsoever. It has 155,000 pages indexed all with funny charactors.
http://www.google.com/search?q=site:lockpicking101.com

here is the results taken from this site, 60,000 pages indexed with funny charactors!
http://www.google.com/search?q=site:vbadvanced.com

I could go on and on but I think you will see that there is nothing to worry about even with no SE mods. So don't let that "?" scare, it doesn't scare search engines :)

oops found no edit, sorry for the double post but I almost forgot to mention a equally important issue.

There is equaaly growing suspicion that mod rewrites to make "search engine friendly" urls actually hurt you more then they help.

Again ther is not enough substantial proof to say if this is true or not, but it does bring up important concerns after many "examples" have been given to show it did hurt some people.

I am of the opinion that any difference would be so minimum that it would be insignificant, and will admit, there is a possibility that mod rewrites can be damaging in some cases.

Regards!

Ok I found the edit button :)
