from the way you are talking, it sounds like you have not set which forum(s) to pull News from in the default setting.

What do you have set for your 'News Posts Maximum' option? Also make sure that you have that module active on that particular page, and that you did not change the 'Module Identifier' setting for that module from 'news'.
