View Full Version : Alignment of Main table at the top...
My site I have setup essentially 3 different fixed sizes. 100%, 90% and 80%. I'm having a problem with the smaller setting not alligning the main header table. It is aligning it to the left quite nicely. In the larger views it is centered well across the page.
How can I center this on the smaller. I've provided an image to demonstrate.
You could also check my forums at www.mcpherson-racing.com and select any of the 'small' styles.
Thank you all for a great product and thank you for making it free!!

I am just guessing, so I could be wrong. but...
I think it is the images you have in your news.
The software cant resize the images on the fly, and your portal has to adjust because of it.
Remove the larger images and you'll know because it will go back to what it's supposed to look like.
You are correct........
Now, How do I fix that for the future? I have alot of users who like to post HUGE photos? Thoughts ideas?

Well, I like to limit my homepage news to only a forum or two that only I or my other admins can start threads in. but...
All you can really do is ask them to post only images of a certain size.
Find out for yourself what size will post and not distort the homepage, and tell them the pictures can not exceed that limit.
Another possibilty, but we'd have to wait for Brian or a better coder then me, would be to set one paticular style as the default for the homepage and make it so it cant be changed.
Of course that would defeat the purpose of styles.
I'd stick with limiting the size of the file your users post.
Or limiting the forums used for news.
sorry, thats the best ideas I have
Good luck with this. ;)
No that is good stuff.. thanks for the information.
Here is another question...... I've changed my 'News Posts Maximum' to 3 and saved, but I'm still showing 10 on the main page. The archives will adjust fine but it appears the main news posts isn't adjusting....
Perhaps there is a way to set a fixed width for the main page no matter the user selections..... hmmm..

I found it, but it seems to be 'broke'.. I had to 'edit' the home page in 'edit pages' section. But the adjusting of the default settings didn't work.... only edit pages..

DMC,
Are the images being linked remoted from within the message or are they being attached? If they are being linked remotely then there isn't much you can do; I'd go with Tomshawk advice about pulling your front page items only from certain forums. If the images on being uploaded, though, I seem to remember a hack being posted over on VB.org to resize upload images (using GD) so that the don't blow out the thread templates when viewing them.

That's because you have that page set to use a different value from the default (it's set up that way so you can easily have different pages with different news forums, polls, and etc). If you check the 'Use Default' checkbox on that page and then save the options then it will go by your default setting. Otherwise it's going to use the value you entered for that specific page.
Thanks for the feedback fellas, I'll look into it..
