i've changed the 'default' page name to home.
i've set up forum as a CMPS page, and quite a few others

but if i try .com/index.php?page=home then it shows the correct modules i chose to show on that page, but it doesn't show my middle section (it doesn't show the custom content).

for another instance, i goto ?page=forum
it doesn't show the custom content in the centre.
if i goto forum/forum.php it shows the left menu (just like the ?page=forum will) but this one WILL show the custom content in the center (whilst the ?page=forum doesn't).

yes i have chosen 'custom content' when setting it up.

Using the "page=forum" link isn't going to work if you've integrated it with your forums. You still have to go to your forum links as it has to be able to get the content from that page.

so what does that mean? page=x will only work with custom pages i've added as purely template-based, or what?

so please explain the point of page=x

If you integrate the CMPS with one of your forum pages then the 'Page Identifier' option is only used to determine which page it should pull. When you're adding new pages rather than integrating them with forum pages then you use the page=X part in the URL to go to that page.
