Hi there...I hope you fellas can help me out...and please be patient, I am a complete PHP newb....learning as I go but atm about all I can do is edit a .php file if I'm told what needs editing :(

Anyways....onto my problem. Trying to setup CMPS for my website www.ap0calypse.com which is currently using the latest version of vBulliten. When I replace the edited global.php and index.php files I get some header error that refers to the edited files and my site doesn't work. Replace the files with the originals and everything is good again.

I'm wondering if my problem is that our forum resides in the root folder on the server, and not in a /forum folder for example. Can CMPS not be installed in such a way? If this is the problem, how hard is it too move the forum to another folder? Can I just copy all the forum files to /forum and access the forum via www.ap0calypse.com/forum...or is it more complicated then that...I assume there would be some paths that need changing, but anything else?

Any help with this would be much appreciated. If you need more info just ask...wasn't sure what to provide. Oh, I guess I should say that to edit the .php files I am just dl'ing the needed ones from the server...editing with Word, saving, and ul'ing back to the server.

If you got time and want to contact me quicker my MSN Messenger addy is papaparappa@hotmail.com

Thanks

What are the errors you get?

I can't remember exactly...but I can replace one of the files later and get the exact message for you.

Basically is was something like: Headers alreay have been sent. Something about cookies. And then it mentioned a line in one of the replaced .php files. (ex. error in line 3575 of global.php).
If I replace all the files I also see a lot of giberish as opposed to my site's background.

So is it atleast supoosed to be possible to add the CMPS to the root folder where the forum is already located?

Thanks for the help...I'll try to get that error message for you later if you need it....gotta go have Thanksgiving dinner now ;)

It won't make a difference where the file is. The error most likely means that you modified one of your files incorrectly. Try re-applying the changes using Notepad or another simple text editor. Do not use Dreamweaver or any similar programs as they have been known to cause problems in the past.

Figured it out. Had 2 blak lines under all the code. Was using stupid Word instead of notepad and couldn't tell there was extra lines. So...its all installed now.

Now I have a couple basic questions.
1) How do you turn the front page on? Simply be renaming the cmps_index.php file to index.php?
2) Since my forum is in the same directory as the CMPS, how will that work? What I mean is what address will the forum be located at?
3) Is there a way to see the work I've done to the CMPS before I "turn it on"?

heh...just thought I'd try going to /cmps_index.php...and there it was...so I guess that answers question 1 and 3.....if you could let me know about 2 that would be great.

There is an admin option in Vbulletin 3.0.3 to give your forum index a different name than index.php, so you'd make it something different, like main.php or whatever. Let me know if you can't find it and I'll look.

Matt

OK....I see that. Currently set as index of course.

"If you change this value you must manually rename the forumhome PHP script to match the new value."

What does it mean by the "forumhome PHP script"? Where is it located? Is it one of the files on the server?
Does that mean I actually rename the current index.php file to forum.php for example, or is that what changing the script name does.

Thanks for the help!

Yes. :)

ok cool. Now there is an index.php file in the root folder, and also one in the AdminCP folder I believe...am I just changing the one in the root folder, the one that will be replaced by the cmps_index.php file eventually?

Next road block I've hit: When I have 3 news posts enabled in the centre column everything is fine....as soon as I set the value to 4 or more however, the centre column fills into the right column and the modules that were in the right column get stuck in the last news post in the centre column.
Any ideas on that.

I'm also currently trying to figure out how to get my reviews showing on the front page. The News module was setup by default, but I'd like one for my reviews as well. Not quite sure what is required to custom make something like that. I see for the news one it lists a bunch of templates and such....and also with the news one, there are the settings available in the "Default settings" area for choosing how many threads to display. I'd like to keep the reviews and news separate.
I'm still learning and reading, but if you want to point me in the right direction that would be great.

Thanks

Does your 4th news post have a quote in it? If so you have to make sure your 'News Maximum Characters' option is set to a high enough number to include the ending quote tag.

heh....just figured that out on my own and was coming back here to tell you I got it sorted....and you answered the question already :D
I set it to unlimited since all the news posts are relatively short anyways. My problem is my review system now. Since it doesn't seem possible to keep reviews separate from news, without a lot of work anyways.

So...my next question is about a review hack of some sort. I came arcoss that v3 Artcles 1.0.1 on vbulliten.org and was wondering if that is what it sounds like....a hack that would allow us to write hardware reviews out and have them created on a new page, just like most hardware review sites. I asked the question there but haven't got a response yet.....just wanted to make sure it does what I want before I try it.

Thanks for all the help.

P.S. Is there an advertisement module available? Basically I'm looking for a setup similar to driverheaven.net and was wondering if those modules are available for dl, or if those are custom ones they created.

Yes, vB3 Articles should do what you're wanting.

As for an ad banner script, there's not one speficically for vBa, but I believe there is one that's integrated with vBulletin available on vbulletin.org.

Hey...nother Q for you guys....been very helpful so far I might add!

I've got the CMPS setup as my main page now: www.ap0calypse.com
Looks great in Firefox but for some reason in IE there are proken pic links in all the news archive postings on the right hand side there. Ideas? According to what can be seen in Firefox there are not even pics there.

Go to your Admin CP, edit your main vBulletin options and save them (you don't actually have to change anything, just save them to update the cache) and see if that helps.

Didn't seem to work....tried a few times. I find it odd how IE shows it but not Firefox.
Any other ideas?
Thanks

The reason it appears ok in Firefox is because it doesn't show the broken "x" as IE will.
I'm not exactly sure what would be causing them to be broken like that, so would you mind submitting a support ticket via the Member's Area here so I can have a look?

Hey Brian, thanks alot for fixing that up. May I ask what the problem was? Was it something on our end or a CMPS issue?

Thanks

It was an error with the CMPS when you use news icons and have the archive on one of the side columns.
