View Full Version : A NEW Look Request
I have a question or request.
With my new vB site I would like to get away from the traditional block look home page and go with like something we had in the past:
I have included a image in this post
http://www.cpfools.com/images/tn.jpg
This would also require us to have blocks on forum.
I have no idea how to modify the template to achieve this nor able to get the blocks on our forum page.
I would really appreciate someone work with me on this project.
I have all of my messenger services in my profile.
Thank you so very much.

That wouldn't be hard at all with just a few template changes.

Other than that it's template changes
Needs a few but I'll get you on the right path ;)
In adv_portal remove both instances of
<!-- Spacer Cell -->
<td width="$vba_options[portal_colspacing]"><img alt="" src="$vboptions[bburl]/$vboptions[cleargifurl]" width="$vba_options[portal_colspacing]" /></td>
<!-- / Spacer Cell -->
Then look throught the other adv templates for the tables for each module you have near the bottom you should see
</table>
<br />
If you change that to
</table>
It should remove the gap between the modules.
That should get you started ;)

Plus you'll probably want to add a border to the main table in your 'adv_portal' template. ;)

Thank you Brian, unfortunately, I do no know how to do all of this.
Thank you soooo much for replying here Ghostsuit and offering assistance.
I unfortunately am a code doofus and do not want to mess my site up.
I may try this today and save off the original code somewhere and replace with yours.
Would love your assistance if you get the opportunity.
Well, thanks to this post, http://www.vbadvanced.com/membersarea.php?do=viewmanual&productid=4&pageid=6 I was able to EASILY do the side bars/blocks!
Now, I could sure use a step by step on creating my new home template.
:confused:

Step by steps not the easiest thing to do. Lot of little modifications that would need to be done.
I've covered the main ones in the post I made, mainly remove the spacer from the main template and then it's a case of looking for the <br /> at the end of module tables in the templates.
After that it's mainly asthetics like how you want the border displayed etc.

Oh and I'd offer to help but at the moment I'm working on template for the two sites I'm running plus a horde of other stuff :(
I may try this, but if there are any senior members or staff here that could assist me in doing this, I would appreciate this big time!

Actually you don't even have to remove the
<!-- Spacer Cell -->
<td width="$vba_options[portal_colspacing]"><img alt="" src="$vboptions[bburl]/$vboptions[cleargifurl]" width="$vba_options[portal_colspacing]" /></td>
<!-- / Spacer Cell -->
Just go into the default options and set Spacing Between Columns to 0
I could remove the <br /> for you and would only take a few minutes but I won't have time really to work on the complete style.
If you want me to do that I'll need an admin account set up with access to the styles. Honestly though it's not that tricky to remove the <br /> once you know what your looking for.
Oh and for the record I'm not staff or anything here, just trying to help.
Ghostsuit,
I know your busy, but would love to work with you o this if you have a spare few!
PM me or IM me. All my services are in my profile.
Thank you!
