View Full Version : Some Modules Won't Display in Dynamics Area

I'm sure it's something simple, but I can't seem to find it. There are certain modules that won't display on my Main Index Page - for example: Guest Book, Featured Article, etc... Though Calendar will show as well as BBcode Modules I've added (advertising).

I've checked everything I can think of - I even have a 'members' category - where when the members post an article there, it is put into a folder for them.

If you could direct me to a resource page to learn more about the product, I'd appreciate it.

Thanks

For the guest book module, make sure that the 'Limit Replies By Category' setting for it is disabled.
As for the Featured Article one, have you marked any of your articles as featured?

That fixed the 'features' module - but not the Guest book. I've tried both "yes" and "no" setting on the Limit Replies By Category.

Ahhh, I wasn't thinking, but the guest book module is not going to work on the main Dynamics page since it requires a userid to be passed to it. If you enable it on the Show Entry or Browse Category page (and the category belongs to a specific user) then it should show up fine.

I added it to the "Browse Category" Page and the "Show Entry" page. (Center Top location). I've gone to the Category in my Articles section that has user categories - I've gone all the way to the entry and don't see it.

How do I even get to the "browse category" page? If you have a link to a manual for the product, I'll go through it. It may be me, but it isn't quite as intuitive as vbadvanced. (not a complaint; just an observation)

The category it's active on must be a members' category and you have to be viewing a particular memeber's entry, otherwise there is not going to be a userid passed to it.
The "Browse Category" page is the page you see when you click on a category's title from the main index page and lists the entries in that category.

Brian: Forgive all the questions - but with no documentation to go through and your product really isn't very intuitive - I need to ask.

I've gone through the guest book - I don't see where you assign it to a 'category'.

I have a sub-category that is a members category - If I open that category, i see individual member categories.

Now - where in the admin area can I:
1. direct the guest book to this area?
2. And its still not showing up in the browse category area.

Again, if you have a manual - or an area on your site where I can find this information myself, I'll be happy to go read it.

thanks

Sorry, but we do not have a manual written for vBa Dynamics yet, but feel free to ask any questions.

You can enable the guest book module on your Browse Category page by going to Admin CP => vBa Dynamics => Edit Module Layouts => Browse Category, and using the form there.
The module will really only work on the Show Entry and sometimes in the Browse Category page (when viewing a specific memeber's category) since it requires a userid to be passed to it. When viewing a normal category or any other vBa Dynamics page, a userid is not going to be passed to the module since that page does not have anything to do with a specific memeber. The guest book is intended to be an individual guest book for any memebrs with entries posted, so it's only displayed when it has a userid that it can pull guest book replies for.
