I am almost finished with the developement of a flash+php+mysql poll system!
It will have its own admin area to create, modify, open, close, and store polls
here is an example of how it will function:
http://www.sportsrant.com/boomedia/poll/
I will incorporate this into my vbadvanced site: http://www.uoptoday.com and then post the instructions here and the system
Please let me know. It is still in Beta though, will come with 3 skins and instructions
I want to get some feedback before i think about releasing it

right on!!! I hope to have it full operational on my vbadvanced site by Monday or Tuesday at the latest, once that is done then I will release it here!!!
the skin that you see is just for testing, I know that width needs to be improved and the skin and text are to small
I will keep this upto date

I was testing some more functions of this poll system. There will not be any other languages sorry!!
There is an error with it right now, I am working to get it corrected, it is just an expansion thing
More later
looks cool.
waiting for release.. :)

That is one of the most awesome hacks I have seen here.

This looks like fun.
When you implement it, it would be more useful and flexible to be able to make the poll selection by specific poll id, (or to select at random from a range of poll ids), rather than by selecting a forum number, as the current poll module works.
The mod for that is described here:
http://www.vbadvanced.com/forum/showthread.php?t=2854
I subscribed to this topic. Nice poll mod! Waiting for this...

Just an update! The first release with the three skins will be finished and ready by Monday, 10/25
I want to make something clear though right up front. This poll system will be a SEPERATE system and will not work with the forums. I am going to add it so it will show up as a block on vbadvanced, It will also work for regular html or php page.
The code to call this will be an <emd src> call to the actual flash poll!
I just want to make sure that everyone understands this!
I am sorry if some of you may have thought that this was an actual vb add on!
I will post screen shots of the new skins in a few days, as they are released, The .fla source will also come with these, so if you are any good at flash, you can modify the pages as needed
Thanks
Mike

if members here are voting on that poll and stating that it needs work, can you please tell me what it needs. That is the only way that I can get it improved. I would really appreciate that

I voted outstanding. The percentages are a little hard to read. I really like the animation.
1) I don't think the percentages need to carry 2 decimal points of precision if they are practically illegible. Probably better to round it to the nearest integer and make them big enough to read.
2) It might be interesting to make the bars different colors. I don't know why.
3) Is there a sound when you submit your vote? I might have missed it, but that would be cool too.
4) Q: What happens in that module if they don't have Flash?
I am looking forward to trying this.

2) It might be interesting to make the bars different colors. I don't know why. Maybe in the other two skins!
3) Is there a sound when you submit your vote? I might have missed it, but that would be cool too. There is no sounds, but something like this could be added
4) Q: What happens in that module if they don't have Flash? not sure what you mean here, you mean flash player
I am looking forward to trying this. Thanks, most of the developement is being done by a group in Romania, once this is done which should be this weekend or Monday, I will release it

Yes. What does the module look like if you don't have the Flash player installed.

If there is flash on a page and a person does not have insalled on their computer, the user will be prompted to download the flash plugin, if they refuse the download, the poll will not show!
Does that clear things up

The final stages are set, due to school and the main devs coming out of europe there was a sligh delay. I am shooting for late tomorrow night or early Friday Morning (-6 GMT).
Sorry for the delay!

okay a small update, The release from the developers that i was referring to was not up to my standards. The skins in flash were poorly written. We have redone all the skins and you can see it live on my forums
http://www.sportsrant.com/forums
That is one to match my site. I will post the screen shots of all three skins and then recheck the install instructions
then release the package by Wednesday at the latest!
I am truly sorry for the delay, I hope you can wait, the new skins are really nicely done

It does look different. I noticed the rollover stats (6/17 etc) hide the lower bar, so if you were to roll over the lowest bar, you wouldn't be able to see what you were highlighting, or highlight what you are reading, but that's not really a big deal

Matt

Wow! Love it!
How do I get one? Has this been released and I've missed something or still in beta?
(edit: I posted at the same time as your release information, oops=) Thanks for this insane mod... looking forward to using it!)
Also, will the fla file be available as well?
msimonds
10-30-2004, 06:43 PM
yes the fla will also come with this release
msimonds
10-30-2004, 07:07 PM
i put up one of the other new skins for viewing!
msimonds
10-31-2004, 11:53 AM
okay it is ready for download!
1)You can download this package by clicking on the following link!
http://www.freeimagebrowser.com/trk.php?fileID=29
2)unzip the package and go into the upload folder; look for the howtoinstall.txt, follow the instructions and install the system, create a new poll
3)then in your admincp create a new template (ie adv_portal_flashpoll)
with the following code:
<table align="center" border="0" cellpadding="$stylevar[cellpadding]" cellspacing="$stylevar[cellspacing]" class="tborder" width="100%">
<tr>
<td class="tcat" align="center"><span class="smallfont"><b>New Poll Test</b></span></td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td class="$getbgrow" width="100%">
<!-- Begin custom code -->
<embed src="http://www.sportsrant.com/boomedia/poll/poll.swf" quality="high" width="160" height="300"></embed>
<!-- End custom code -->
</td>
</tr>
</table><br />MAKE SURE TO REPLACE THIS LINE
<embed src="http://www.sportsrant.com/boomedia/poll/poll.swf (http://www.sportsrant.com/boomedia/poll/poll.swf)" quality="high" width="160" height="300"></embed>
with the code from your new poll's settings
then go to your vba CPMS and add a module
OR Template to Include: flashpoll
then activate it and you should see it on your home page
**note all questions and support will be here, please do not PM or email me, I will not respond, but I will answer questions here, I am also going to release this on vb.org
This was an expensive undertaking, if you feel that you would like to dontate to make this a better system, please donate to sportsrant@sportsrant.com
Thanks
Mike

I forgot to add to the install instructions!
When you create a new poll, You have to "open" it in the settings under the poll list

okay the poll password issue I will look into
Did you activate the poll or say to open it under the poll list
msimonds
10-31-2004, 03:09 PM
okay you have to make sure that when you change the password, that the path to your poll folder is also in there, it cannot be just an *
If you are having problems, send me a PM with your site poll url and your admin and password

msimonds, now that this is a release, maybe you should close this thread and start a new one? therefore your install instructions and file download link will be on the first post! it'll be much easier to read and find.

Your code is totally wrong, You surely did not cut and paste what was in the settings area, the text box
<embed src="http://www.gametavern.net/poll/poll.swf" quality="high" width="160" height="300"></embed>
You are missing the rest of the call! You modified it yourself, that is why it is not working
msimonds
01-13-2005, 10:10 AM
plus the link to the poll does not work. I can help you get this working!! Just contact me
