Just like all other hacks. It's more dificult to do but not imposible.

To update vBulletin you will have to re-apply the file changes (which there are 5 files to modify, one change each), then upload the links install file and select the option to install only the templates (vBulletin will delete any templates that are not it's own and have not been customized, but it only takes a minute to re-install them). All and all it should take about an additional 5-10 minutes to upgrade vBulletin.
