Looking For Beta Testers for vBa Gallery

The private beta testers for vBa Gallery have been chosen. Please keep an eye out for the public versions which should be released in a couple of weeks.

Well now that we're on version Beta 2, I think it's about time to find a few more beta testers for vBadvanced Gallery. If you are interested in helping to test the gallery, please read the following information carefully.


The price for the beta version of the gallery shall be $49.99. Once it hits the RC versions (which will be available to the public), the price will go up to $59.99, and then $69.99 once it hits the 'Gold' version.

You can see an online demo of the gallery here (http://vbadvanced.com/gallery). Please feel free to upload images, post replies, and test everything there.

Please note that this is a Beta version and THERE WILL BE BUGS. One bug in Beta 1 resulted in the loss of all images for one user. Hopefully there are none remaining that could be that critical, but I just want to make sure everyone understands that this is Beta software and there could still potentially be some issues.

Another thing to note is that if a problem arises that I am not able to duplicate, then I will need to be granted FTP access to the files on your server as well as the Admin CP in your forum. Of course there is no reason I would do anything malicious to your server, database, and etc, but I understand that some people are not comfortable with allowing anyone else to have access to such things. If you are one of these people, please do not apply and wait until the RC versions are released.

Now, if I haven't scared you off yet, here is how to go about applying to be a beta tester. Simply send an email to betatest@vbadvanced.com with the following information:

URL of the site the script will be used on.
Server OS (Unix, Windows, etc).
PHP Version.
MySQL Version.
Image resizing software you intend to use (currently only GD and ImageMagick are supported).
Intended usage for the gallery (Mostly images, Mostly Multimedia, both, etc).
Do you use table prefixes in your vBulletin tables?
Do you currently have an image gallery that you will need to import images from? If so, which product?
Any additional comments (optional)

Please note that all of that information must be included or you will not be considered for the test. Please note as well that not everyone who applies will be accepted as a beta tester.

It is starting to look good. I noticed that you are the one that uploaded all the pictures on the demo site. But in the Member's Categories your name is not listed. If you uploaded all those pictures your name should have been in there with the image count right?

The Member's Category is not like the Member's Category that you can create in PhotoPost. This one is simply a category in which you can allow your member's to create their own sub-categories that they will be able to manage. You can also turn this option on for any category that is created.

I see. Is there plans of creating a members gallery like in photopost? This is something that my users want and use a lot. It fits into the theme of my web site. I have a Appalachian Trail web site. When people return from hiking the Appalachian Trail they upload there photos and usually put them in the category that they belong in. But to see one person gallery represents there whole hike. It would be nice if this was incoperated.

Oh on a side not I just tried to upload a two photos to the demo area and got the follow errors:

A few people have asked about a Member's Categories like PhotoPost's, so I will most likely create a hack for that shortly after the RC version is released (though I can't guarantee exactly when I will be able to do that).

I would love to be a beta tester Brian. But I want to have this members gallery option available before I sign up. I think this option should come standard with the gallery.

Is there going to be a category or thread made to discuss issues, problems or suggestions for this gallery that is in beta testing or should we post them in this thread?

I have a question. When someone creates an E-Card. How long does it stay on the system before it is deleted?

One other thing to point out. I think it would be better to change the name in the breadcrumbs from (Main Category) to something like(Gallery Home).

Is it not better to inform everyone that not made it to the beta testing, they have send you a email and even a simple awnser is better then non.

A simple copy and paste would do the trick.

You get free upgrades for a year, then at the end of the year you are able to use the last version you got for as long as you want, to upgrade after a year there will be a reduction in price, but he hasn't decided how much yet

Darkness - Doubtfully. I promise the renewal fees will be reasonable though. :)

Hialls - I'm shooting to go ahead and have Beta 3 ready for Monday or Tuesday, and shortly after it's ready I will be contacting everyone that has applied.

tad bit expensive for a 15 year old :(Based upon the support provided here at vbadvanced.com and the fact that Brian is extremely open to adding new features based upon public input then a standard price of $69 is actually very reasonable. Personally I've been waiting for the release of vBa Gallery based upon the support alone; for me it's worth it to pay a bit more when my questions & problems can be addressed directly with the developers.

But I also know what it is like to be on a budget. :o Have you checked out 4Images (http://www.4homepages.de) yet? It's a free package and while it won't be as neatly integrated as vBa Gallery is/will be it may be a better solution for you budget wise.

The first group of testers was just a small group and Beta 1 & 2 were only available to them. Once Beta 3 is finished then I'll be contacting those who have applied.
