Thought maybe the first time that people might have been scared away or turned off by some Tolkien geeks. ;) :)

I'm going to give you some background info this time.

This site was not created by choice, but out of necessity. Many of us used to belonged to another site, Imladris. Imladris was created in May 1999. In late August 2002 Imladris disappeared without warning. All attempts to contact the owner went unanswered. After about two weeks, the guy who had been the board admin contacted me and one of the other moderators. He was going to buy a vb license, and get some server space, and asked if we would help.

There were hundreds of people wandering the net lost and confused. We needed a home. We had to have the vb guys install the board, as the three of us didn't know how. All I had was basic html skills at the time. We opened the site on Sept 3, 2002. We sent out hundreds of emails trying to find people. We had a mailing list from the old site, and I sent out over 800 myself. Other Tolkien sites put up notices to let people know where we were.

At the time, we didn't know if it was going to be a temporary refuge or what. It became our permanent home. A few months after the closing of Imladris, the owner put the site up for sale on eBay. We own it now, but it's still sitting on a cd. We may put it up as an archive, or try to merge the old board with the new one sometime in the future.

Since the opening of the C-o-E, I've learned how to do a lot of things. If a program/script has good instructions and support, I'm fine. I'm still completely php ignorant though, and will probably always will be. I'm a 53 year old grandmother, and I just don't have the time to learn something that complicated. :)

Even though the films are all finished, the site continues to stay active, and we still get new registrations every day. The whole site is still a work in progress, and we're working on it all the time.

So, without further ado, here is The Council-of-Elrond (http://council-of-elrond.com/index2.php). http://www.council-of-elrond.com/forums/images/smilies/curtsey2.gif

Hm. Well, our host is supposed to move us to a new, bigger server soon. We share the space with his and a few other sites. I think we've all just outgrown it. I think some things on his new site are possibly putting too heavy a load on it. We can't afford a dedicated server.

I went back and spent some time going over the site, and I like it :D I'm not that big a LoTR fan, but there's a lot of interesting stuff there :)
