I am not very experienced with this sort of thing and am having some difficulty setting up my Vbadvanced CMPS portal. My webhost has installed the software for me and it is all working ok but I am having difficulty setting up the news.
I have added a forum called “news” but cannot get it to display on my front page. The new forum shows up under my main forum list (I have restricted it so only I can post but everyone can view) but try as I might I do not see how I can get this onto my portal page.
I have read the other threads here regarding this and have gone into CMPS/edit etc and put in the same forum code as I used on the forum but it still doesn’t seem to work.
Am I doing something really obviously wrong here? Is there an idiots guide to setting this up anywhere or can somebody here explain what I am doing wrong?
Thanks! :)

Do you have the news module activated ...?

Yes I did have it active but thanks a lot for your comment as it helped! I was using the display order of my forum as my forum ID. :D It was only when I was looking through properly (for the 100th time!) that I noticed.
I have now gotten it to display my posts in the news forum but have a further few questions (that may be linked).
1. The sites I have seen before have the different news items separated from each other. Mine (both threads) seem to be stuck together in one block. How do I make them appear separately? I might not be wording this very well so have a look at www.khazaddum.com to see what I mean.
2. The forum I am using for the news posts is showing up on my main forums page. As I don’t want anyone else using it would making the forum hidden, hide the news items on my portal front page? For instance I have a mod forum that regular posters cannot see or access, if I did this to my news forum would it hide the posts from everyone on my front page?
3. There doesn’t seem to be any options for people to be able to comment on the news stories. Is this because I have set the permissions to stop people posting in the forum? If so how do I stop them using the main forum, but allow them to post comments?
Thanks for your help. :)

1). Make sure you have your 'News Posts Maximum' option set to something other than 0 (the option says 0 will show all posts, but that's actually a bug and it will disable the news instead).
2 & 3). I would recommend setting the 'Active' option on that forum to 'No' which will hide it on your main forums page. Then edit the permissions for that forum and make sure that only the groups you would like to post news have permission to create new threads, then make sure the other groups have permission to post replies.
