I get this error -
Warning: chdir(): No such file or directory (errno 2) in /home/jameshen/public_html/index.php on line 21
Unable to add cookies, header already sent.
File: /home/jameshen/public_html/index.php
Line: 21
I installed vB on the root directory, so it isn't in a /forums directory, could this be the problem? Thanks.

The 'Unable to add cookies' error is usually caused by some extra white space in the cmps_index.php file. If you still get that after you add the correct path in your chdir line make sure there is no space after the closing ?> tag in that file.

Another issue. Not all images are showing, some are.

Step 1 - Admin CP Modifications
Go to your Style Manager under "Styles & Templates" in your Admin CP. Choose to modify All Style Options. On this page, you will see a section for "Image Paths". Here you must change the path for each image directory (Title Image, Button Images Folder, Miscellaneous Images Folder, etc) to the full path (ex - /forum/images or http://yoursite.com/forum/images).
You must do this for each of your styles, otherwise your images will not show up!

We'll, I am going to redo all of the steps and such, maybe I messed up on something  because even after setting the image path correctly, some images STILL didnt appear. If that doesn't work, I will update you all later.

Alright, after clearing out everything, re-doing the steps in fresh files, the same error occured. I followed the steps here and it worked for the default theme, however, not for the Satellite theme. The satellite theme still calls the files from /images directory, however, the full root is /forums/images.
Would a quick fix such as just putting the a directory up with /images in the root directory hurt me in the long run?
Thanks in advance!

Alright, I just installed the forum in the root directory (no /forums), but for the forum listing is index.php and the portal system is cmps_index.php. Is there anyway I can make it so that the forum listing is something different so then the webpage goes directly to cmps_index.php?

if they are in the same dir.. just change the forum index.php to something like forum.php but make sure in the admin cp that you set the proper paths to the right file so that your links work.

hmmm... and what if the php info query ends up with that information:
_SERVER["PATH_TRANSLATED"] no value. Servers can be so cute!

If you are installing the CMPS in the same directory as your forum's files then you can just comment out the chdir line by adding // in front of it.

Interestingly I've found by trial and error the correct directory. But what I don't get: the cmps-site (that's what I really wanted to do all my aftermath for  Did I miss something?

He is saying if they are in the same directory.. you need to comment out the chdir line in the cmps index page. // will comment it out

I'm sorry, but I don't understand what you're asking here...

Sorry for my bad english - I just want to get cmps running and I'm sure, that I AM DOING SOMETHING WRONG. But I can't figure it out alone. It is not the solution with // before the ./chdir command.
So please be patient again and try to help me over this issue:
I followed all steps in the described way (yeah, I used even a dictionary) and in this part I did no mistake: copied all script files to the places where they belong, triple checked, if there is even a space left or something else. Everything looked okay and beautiful. Still following the instructions, I loaded each file where it should belong to. Checked again: the files are in the described directories.
But CMPS don't like to run.
@Brian, I hope you don't feel annoyed (that's my impression if I read the reply to the quota). I don't get it running and I used more than 20 hrs until now - for this subject only. Do you understand me now?
Best regards,
steve

What exactly is the error you are getting or how is it not working properly?

I'm certainly not annoyed. I just didn't understand what you were asking at first. :)

Okay and thx for your kind reply.
The real prob is: I never have seen a "cmps-site" until now. The installation process seem to be allright because there are all controls in adminCP (cmpsCP).
I'm convinced after these trial and error "games", that I'm in the very beginning again: path problem cannot be resolved by myself, equal what I'm doing (equal which kind of advice from this forum I'm following). Three days before I made a fresh installation and after renaming cmps_index.php into index.php I've got a four line output all relating to global.php and the path. (If you need them, I'll try and copy them again - just afraid nothing is running afterwards and I can install all again -that was the result after changing pathes within all interesting files, I've got messed myself and the forum up). Also restoring the original files did not recover the forum.
Thx for any further input,
steve :)

What do you have set for your chdir line in your cmps_index.php file?
If you would like for me to have a look please submit a support ticket via the Members' Area here and I'll be glad to see what the problem is.

Thank you very much Brian,
I think that would be the best way: you have a look into my "path" and "dirs" better than any description I can provide. Thanks again and hopefully you don't worry too much about what I've done :) Ticket is filled out, there is no hazzle....
best wishes,
steve

Dear Brian!
It would have been easier for me asking you earlier for a support ticket. Thank you very much for these solutions:
1. setting the cookie path correctly (without that ending / )
2. adding php5 code
3. getting the cmps_index.php working.
Really glad about waht you've done! Thank you for your kind, professional and fast help! Whenever I get in trouble again, I'll ask earlier for your support!
Thx again and best wishes,
steve :)
