View Full Version : Chmod After Upgrading Question

After Brian did my installation of Links Directory several months ago, I am finally getting around to setting it up but am doing the upgrade on it before dong so.

I followed the instructions for upgrading and everything went fine with that. Upgrade was successful. My problem is with the last step that the instructions tell you to do which is......

chmod the images/banners and images/caticon folders to 777

OK, I know this is a "just born newbie" question but I need to make sure I am doing it right. When I ftp to my sever there is a folder called links in the root directory. Within that folder is a folder called images. In the images folder is 2 more folders, one is called banners and the other is called caticon.

I know how to chmod them but the above quote from the instructions is confusing me because of the "banners and images". I know it is a stupid question but am I just supposed to chmod the images folder that is in the links folder and then the banners folder and the caticon folder, both within the images folder?

I know I am making this harder than it really is but any help in clearing up m confusion would be very appreciated.

Thanks,
Kimberly

You got to Links /Images then chmod the Banners and Icon folders, not the Images folder itself.

Thanks for the response and Ooops

See, I read it again and thought I was doing it right so my next question is what is the numbe that is supposed to be on the images folder? Before I read you response I made all 3 of them 777 so I need to change back the images folder to what it was and I don't remember.

I did try to upload and overwrite the whole links folder but it didn't change the chmod of the images folder. Oh well, if someone can tell mw what it is supposed to be then we will be in business.

Thanks again

The default value for the other folders depends on your host, but it was most likely 644.

Thanks Brian,

I looked at the other folders like for my Dynamics and several others and found them to be at 755 so does that sound right?

I don't really know what those numbers mean except for what I can see in the check boxes when you change them. But I am going to assume that's the default value for my host.

As always, thanks for your time
