View Full Version : Before I install...
Hi all hope you can help me out with a my question.
I have been very happy with the way Vbindex has been working on my site for the last year but I'm not so happy with the lack of add-on modules and development, so I thought I would have a look here again and I'm amazed how well this has come on since I last looked and the modules that are listed look great, I have noticed that the last x amount of post are on the right hand side, I would like to know if you can have them in the centre, infact if you look here (http://www.chetnet.co.uk/portal/) at my current portal I would like to have a similar lay out, is this possible, also from other users of vba; what is the support like for this portal.
Also I use an article system (http://www.chetnet.co.uk/articles/) that I would like to show either the most viewed or last updated, is this possible
Sorry for the long post but I need to be sure before I upgrade, the biggest thing I need in the centre box to look my current site
Thanks and look forward to your responses
Chet

One thing I like about CMPS is that you can put the modules where you want. :) And its quite easy, just click the little <- or ->'s to move it from left to right and give it a display order, and you're set.
As for the articles, someone more advanced should be able to answer that for you then I, but I wouldnt' doubt it can be done with a hack or mod.

Chet,
I'll try to answer what I can. :)
Any of the modules in CMPS can be moved to either the left, middle, or right columns via the ACP. From looking at your site I really don't see anything that can't be duplicated in CMPS. The only thing might be needed is some tweaking to get your "Latest Threads" module to mimic the same layout that you have now. If you haven't already I'd recommend browsing through the CMPS Addon Modules, Hacks, & Modifications (http://www.vbadvanced.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=26) forum first, though, to look around to make sure that everything that you want to get out of the CMPS is there.
The support provided here is outstanding. When I was first setting up the CMPS product on my own site Brian went over some concepts with me that I wasn't getting right away from reading the manual (specifically, the paradigm of the "pages") and when I had problems I was able to open a Support Ticket and he then went in and took care of it. Considering CMPS is a free product being able to get direct support from the developer was amazing. Since then I've added the Links product to my site and am currently rolling out the Gallery product. Hopefully Brian won't mind me revealing some 'behind-the-scenes' stuff but with the Gallery betas just about every little thing that I've been able to come up with he's either resolved almost immediately or figured out a work-around for me. From reading the messages in the forums it looks like the experience for others is the same. On a personal leve I have no problems giving a 100% http://www.vbadvanced.com/forum/images/icons/icon14.gif recommendation to any of the vBadvanced products based upon the support alone.
Which article system are you using? I'm not using any myself so I can't give first-hand feedback but I know from the forums here that a lot of the guys are using V3Articles integrated with the CMPS.

EDIT: Just a quick FYI.... a "shoutbox" isn't one of the pre-configured modules with CMPS so you'd need to install a seperate VB Hack for it and then integrate it into CMPS. There are two popular ones on VB.org, BV Shoutbox and Shoutbox 1.04 -- I know first-hand that BV Shoutbox can be integrated and I've seen others integrate the Shoutbox 1.04 in their homepages also. I mention this, though, because I know a lot of people have been asking for an 'out-of-the-box' Shoutbox module for CMPS.

As thejaxx said, it's very easy to move the modules where you would like them.
As for the articles system, I'm pretty sure there's at least one add-on module here for v3articles.
Thanks for the replies, just downloaded and playing with it now on my test box, its not v3articles that I have, its a paind one from Here (http://www.activecampaign.com/kb/).
Will carry on playing now and will let you know if I get it running on my live box, again thanks for the replies

I use vBarticles and have a module that shows the last 10 articles on my CMPS page. It's here on the vBa site somewhere... :)
If need be, would someone be able to create a mod for me so our latest or 10 x posts so from our artice system can be used, we use KnowledgeBuilder which can be found here (KnowledgeBuilder)
Thanks
Chet
