View Full Version : vBa Links question
where, when, what can it do, how much is it, etc? :D
I've been piddling about with various links scripts but haven't been happy with any of them. The better ones don't integrate easily with vB and the ones that do aren't good enough. Hopefully vBa links will fit the bill if vBa is anything to go by (been using it since release) :)

Hmmm... Well here's a quick feature list (just off the top of my head).
Unlimited directories & sub-directories.
Replies to links.
Ratings.
User Favorites.
What's new / popular sections.
Advanced search.
User favorites.
Subscribe to links & directories.
Sticky links.
Suspend links.
Validation system (can be set per usergroup).
Moderators for directories.
Advanced sorting options.
Send to friend option.
And of course it's completely integrated with vBulletin's users, permissions, and templates.
I haven't decided on a definite price yet, but it will be under $50. Beta testing for the script should be starting this weekend (assuming there are no major problems with it and vB3 Gold - which I don't think there will be) and hopefully it will be available to purchase in early April.

ditto
Well I can't say I will definitely buy it until I've seen it in action, it would be foolish to do otherwise but the outline looks good and if it does what I want with good vB3 integration then its very likely I will.

He Brain we like to beta test! We have (use) 500-750 links!! So that will be a good test;-)
And we buy it absolutly! We really need it badly..

I would also like to beta test the links. You can see my own vBulletin mods at www.winxpcentral.com. I have created my own links system, but its far from where i want it to be.
Can I ask (I feel someone should at least ;)) what makes it different from the freely available links directory you can get from vb.org?

That's about like asking what's the difference between phpBB and vBulletin. A lot more options & features, plus it's professionally written. ;)

Em phpbb is professionally written too, that was a bad campare imo :)
Anyway looking forward for youre 'links'.

Maybe "professionally written" wasn't the best choice in wording. The comparison would still be similar though. For some, phpBB is enough to fill their needs. Others want/need the bells & whistles of vBulletin. ;)
Has there been any progress with this script?

It's in beta testing right now. Assuming no major problems are found between now and then, it should be available next week. :)
I've also thrown up a test version on this site if anyone would like a preview - http://www.vbadvanced.com/links/

I don't have permission to view the page. :(

Guess that would help, huh? Just updated the permissions. :)

LOL Thank's Brian. ;) Look's great.
Looks good and just what I want and as I am currently revamping my site it can't come soon enough :)
One glitch though, the drop down menus don't close unless you click somewhere else on the page.

Please keep the price reasonable. :(

One glitch though, the drop down menus don't close unless you click somewhere else on the page. That's the way all drop down menus are with vBulletin. The menus for directory tools, search, and etc will be enabled if you have drop down menus enabled for the rest of vBulletin, but there is an option to turn off the drop down menus for each link in the browselinks page. ;)
LoL, I've been using vB3 since they made it a public beta and I never even noticed that :D
I can't wait for both the Links and new vBA scripts to become available so I can finish my site off, I already use vBA and the Links script looks better than perfect for my needs :)

I haven't seen a link directory that fits so well with vbulletin, and incorporates vb's style if you will. It's a great enhancement to vbadvanced if you ask me. Something that took days if not weeks of coding I'm sure.
Brian

I think weeks, if not months of coding would be more accurate. ;)
but is it ready for the eager hordes yet? :)
ps. sorry if I appear to be nagging, its just that this is the last piece in the puzzle and I am eager to get the site finished

I don't think is ready yet? The developers are still beta testing the script and finding bugs.

I think it's ready for sale, but I am debating on adding a couple of other new features first. The main thing I'm wanting to do that's preventing it from being sold is creating an admin demo and such.

This looks similar to the new version on VB.org:

Not really... The way everything is laid out is completely different, plus there are quite a few other options. And you haven't even seen the admin side yet. ;)

I'm working on it! I'm always horrible about writing up descriptions, feature lists, and etc, so that's mostly what's taking so long. It should be safe to say that it will be available within an hour. Hopefully a little less, but saying an hour should give me a little breathing room. ;)
