This person is not an admin and is sending out fake virus warnings to members via PM and claiming to be part of vBA: Lady_Admin (http://www.vbadvanced.com/forum/member.php?u=119148)

Thanks for the notice; the user has of course been banned. Seems like I have been needing to break out the Ban Hammer a lot lately. :(
I don't have the ability to wipe out a user's PM here so if anybody else gets these messages, please ignore them (or, Brian, if you see this, can you wipe the PM's from that user?).
Brian

Thanks for the heads up Neal. All PM's sent by them have been deleted.

Brian, please do the same for "antoonio937"
Really, this just is not an isolated issue here. My gosh man, there are some very good solutions on vb.org for controlling 99% of these spammers.
What bothers me the most is the lack of concern from the owners here on these threats. What will it take for Brian to really take this seriously?
I been staying away from this site simply because of the spam issue, one of these days there will be a spammer that hijacks this site and then what?
Come on Brian, just install StopForumSpam
Sorry for bagging on this, but seriously this is just unacceptable for a site like yours and the reputation you have for such great software.

Spammers are not going to take over the site any more so than Martians are. And sorry, but right now I'm more concerned with getting vB4 versions out the door than I am with a few overly aggressive spammers.

If you are a forum admin (since you are here you most probably are), then you should be able to identify threats, so in here it won't work. Cleaning up doesn't takes much time and delaying it won't cause Armageddon, so chill.
Most of the people here are more worried about the upcoming updates anyway so they won't mind Brian (and the rest) coding than doing moderator duties.
Hang in there Brian :P must be crazy getting these days.
A few Aggressive spammers is maybe a couple hits a week or month, not 100's per day as it seems to be here.
Installing StopForumSpam takes less then 5 minutes :confused:
I understand your commitment to getting vba4 out and I appreciate it very much. It is simply annoying to find so many porn ads, cell phone ads, hoe big can I be ads every time I come here for an update.
As far as I am concerned, spammers are threats to the welfare of any forum, and yes spammers can establish a post with Trojans and PHISH and many other tiny little things that go bump in the night.
Now if you escuse me, there is a black helicopter outside my window with Zeagorn the Venition trying to steal my secret sauce for world take over :rolleyes::)
I know it is trivial, I know Brian works his ass off to give us some great stuff, THANK YOU BRIAN please stop the spam :o

For the last 3 days, I got 3 different spam pm from 3 different users too. It is probably a bot.. If you stop using url tags for members in pms who has less than X posts, I'm sure this will help: :)
if ($vbulletin->userinfo['posts'] < 10 AND (preg_match('/\[url/i', $pm['message'])) )
{
standard_error("Sorry you can't send private messages with links in it until you have contributed to the forum more and proved you are not a spammer bot");exit;
}

I took a slightly different approach as I've got registered users with no posts that are allowed to PM while all of the posters need to be approved via initial post moderation. To cover that scenario I simply added this plugin to the private_newpm_start hook location. Just change the '5' to however many days you want to hold off new registrants before they can send a PM. It just caught this turkey of a pm spammer giving me a chance to ban them.
if (is_member_of($vbulletin->userinfo, 2) && ((TIMENOW - $vbulletin->userinfo['joindate']) < (5 * 86400)))
{
eval(standard_error(fetch_error('no_permission')));
}
