What is in store to be released from vBadvanced next; what is in development or planed after the gallery moves to 1.0 Gold?

Right about the time it's ready. ;)
Honestly, I have no clue. I've done a little work and have some ideas in mind, but haven't had much time to work on it lately.

I dont think anyone is moaning or hurrying Brian up, we are all just interested in finding out what project he has next, and find out what features said product will have.
Thats all, if I am wrong on this then I am sorry, but the phrase 'give the man a break' if that is what you meant it wrong in your ideals. A little interest in future projects is not having a go, its merely a healthy interest in the business that vBadvanced is working on.

I was thinking about the same thing before I got to that part of your post. I'd be more worried if people weren't interested and wondering what I was working on. :)
Ok, you guys want some more info?
vBa CMPS 2.0... With this version we're basically going to try to make it easier for everyone and solve some of the most common problems that people have. The 'Add/Edit Module' interface will be laid out a little differently so that it will easier for people to understand, plus all of the options for each module will be on the page with that module rather than in the 'Default Settings' section (which will make it easier to add new modules with settings, plus copy exisiting modules). There will be options where you can choose what links need to be replaced in your navbar (and/or header) to add your forum's URL in front of them instead of just the default vB links being replaced, plus an option where you can specify which variables need to be added to the global list in the print_portal_output() function so that it won't be necessary to edit any files to add these for other hacks you may have. We're also going to try to make it possible to include other files on both pages and for modules with less work. Oh, and each module will have a default "shell" template (which can be turned on/off on a per-module basis if necessary) so that if you want to edit the look for the module tables you'll only have to edit one template.
I think the next two products that we may be working on here will be vBa Articles and vBa Ad Banner Management. I can't really give much info on those yet as I haven't even started working on them, but hopefully it won't be too long before I'll be able to.

Will vBa CMPS 2.0 be a chargable item? like the gallery or will it be like your flagship product CMPS 1.0 ie free ?

Brian, interesting reading.
You've got the geek in me wondering about something..... with the talk lately about the next version of VB switching to OOP for it's code-base, how will it affect big projects such as CMPS and Gallery? Any chance that Jelsoft is giving some previews to some of the big hack teams so that they can prepare for the shift in programming paradigms?

I love the work that is done here at Vba, I was wondering if you would possibly be interested in doing a script like this.
http://www.gamingscripts.com/?page=index.ladders
a nice demo can be found here.
http://www.squadgames.com/ladder_network/
and have it completly integrated with vbulletin. I would love to see something like this.

Actually I probably will be writing my own arcade when I get some free time. Not sure if I'll release it or not though.

2.0 will be free as well. :)

Well I haven't got a copy (though I would LOVE to take a look and see what they're doing). I'm sure 3.1 will require some changes in the way our scripts are written though.

vBaArticles sounds like a winner to me... as long as it allows for multipage, multisession posting :)

since this turned into a wish list thread...
The other day I went to see Santa to have a little heart to heart with him. Although he didnt give me a clear answer & kept launching Candy Canes at me, he did say he'd talk to Brian about a VBaClassifieds for xmas 05'. Not sure what Brian's schedule is like, but I have the big man and his ankle biting friends on him now! ;)
although the old man does not pass by here in Arabia, a VBaClassified will be a good addition that I'd like added to the jewels Brian offered us here.
Count me in for a copy whenever it is released and free or not. I am in

I am very interesting in all the projects from vBa CMPS 2, Banner Management and Articles as well as possible Arcade System. I like and currently use PHPADsNews System for my banner managerment and if we can get something like that intergrated into vB that would be great; like a subcrtion based payment system for members to use their banners or what not would be great.
Please also consider PHP5 when developing these new thing because some host (like mine) is planing to move to PHP5 soon; and I just had a taste of it. I would be glas to test anything for you in PHP4 or 5 and I am willing to pay for the final verison as other people would pay.

A shame you haven't done that article engine yet, since that's what I really need. Does anyone have a recommendation as to a fully-featured article engine that can be easily integrated with vBulletin? Would it be that v3Articles one? Does it work well with this vbAdvanced CPMS?

I use V3Articles. It's a first release, so a bit basic, but still very nice to use. It's part of the forum system, and runs separate from the portal, so short answer, it works fine with CMPS.
There are a couple hacks already for this and CPMS.
I'm quite pleased to here about the module changes, I think they are great ideas. I've used PHP-Nuke before, and am very familar with PostNuke as well, and both have matured their module systems greatly over the years, so it's nice to hear CMPS will be doing some changes as well to make things a lot easier.

Do you mean hacks to replace v3Articles or to facilitate its use with CPMS? Could you pm me their details please? Thanks in advance.

hacks to use blocks with CMPS, things like listing latest articles in the portal main page.
I'm sure there's other article systems running around, just search for them I guess. I'm happy with V3Articles, does the job.
I didn't bother with the hacks here though, I like a nice clean looking site, and the articles system isn't used that much by my members.
I re-read the post about CPMS 2, and was wondering if there was a plan to have a centralized admin with links and icons like PHP-Nuke displays. Going to the admin lists all the various options with icons, things like modules, blocks, articles, gallerys etc as categories, clicking on the icon takes you to that systems settings. It's what you see when you hit the admin main page. Was wondering as it might be something to consider as CPMS matures, and more and more features are added, just from a organization end.

Dont mind me for my 2 cents :p
but, sence this has become a wish list of sorts, and I have not seen it yet
a very kewl addon for Version 2.0 would be the ability to change where modules sit on a per page basis
Let me explain,
by default, the latest Topics module is on the right side of the homepage, unless you change it manually, but...
Lets say I create a new page, but on the new page, I want the latest topics module in the center or on the left. To do that, I have to change it in "modules", but doing this affects it on the homepage as well.
This is the same with the order of the modules down any side. A change in the module order affects it on the homepage as well.
I hope I explained that so you understand Brian ;)
I cant wait to see what you come up with, as vBadvanced Rocks. You are the man ;)

*nods* the current vbarticles addon is pretty limited. I wish they'd allow more than 1 feature article for instance, thats my biggest complaint.
Also gotta keep in mind that Jelsoft themselves are working on a cms themselves which will integrate with the forums although i dont expect any release of that for ages, ie a year at least.

The ability to remove, or add is already there, or at least sort of, via a hack
http://www.vbadvanced.com/forum/showthread.php?t=2047
but, the user re-orderable would be awesome, well, that and not having to hack the site for the ability of add/remove :p

A VBChat would be high on my list. I'm running one off from vbulletin.org right now, but there must be a better way that vBAdvanced could invent.
Classified ads are also important to me. I'm not sure whether to go with the "competition" or wait it out. I'm presently using WebBBS for classifieds, but the sign-up system stinks and vBulletin has thouroughly spoiled me with its admin management capabilities. My conversation boards are on a separate domain (same server) from the classifieds, so maybe the stand-alone version would be best for me. Hopefully, it can still reach into the vBulletin user data so as to allow only one registration system.
One thing is certain. I waited for vBadvanced Gallery and I'm glad that I did.
I think the next two products that we may be working on here will be vBa Articles and vBa Ad Banner Management.

A much needed app.
I have all the vBa apps now and think they are head and shoulders ahead of the rest of the pack. Well done Brian & the vBa team!
