Hello all (n00b here)

I'm considering migrating my PostNuke website over to vbAdvanced. However, one feature I am looking for is a Product Reviews module.

I'd like for a member to be able to submit a review of a product, which I can organize into categories (i.e. Country, Top 40, etc). Ideally, there would be a ranking system, where the user can rate the prouduct and the viewers can rate the review.

Your reply is appreciated.

I believe v3articles is the only vB integrated script that's out at the moment and might be what you're needing.

I use reviewpost, which you can see here:

http://www.ultimatenurse.com/reviewpost/index.php

it is integrated with ubbthreads on that site, but it integrates with VB in the exact same fashion.

I'm currently switching that site to vb and have it up and running with CMPS right now.

You can see a version of the reviews integrated with VB here but there aren't any products there yet:

http://www.huntandfishfinders.com/reviews/

It appears that the gallery software here is nearly identical to the photopost software which I use, but it's much much cheaper.

I'm hoping that maybe Brian will eventually make a reviews software in the same fashion :AHEM: :D and the features that the gallery software has, and THEN a classifieds section like photopost has too.

I have so many sites, the cheaper software price is almost worth it to wait in the hopes that he eventually does, than to pay the reviewpost price...

Well steer by way of warning stay clear of "censura" by http://www.incursio.com, at least until they go open source. It's a zend optimized (encoded), bloated code that doesn't fully integrate and the development has been stalled for at least a year.

I will never buy closed source again. Once is enough

Matt

We do have plans to create some type of articles system, but I can't say when that would be released.

Well, I took the plunge and migrated PN to vB3. What a pain in the arse that was!

Just bought ReviewPost and and installing it now. I'll post my results soon.

bamaster, I think you'll like reviewpost.

And, if the reviews software for vbadvanced is anything like the gallery software, I'll be excited to see it when Brian gets time to work it out. The admin demo for the gallery is pretty awesome.

I ended up buying ReviewPost. It's ok. Not phenomenal... just ok.

First off, it's ridiculously overpriced. $100 (on sale) for a script with a tiny feature set. Especially considering that it's nothing more than a re-tooled version of PhotoPost. It's missing some useful features, like the ability to rate the reviews themselves (as opposed to the reviews rating the product). And the ability to add custom fields and review criteria, like Product Performance (on a scale of 1-10). I am limited to the pre-defined reviewing criteria, which for the most part is disappointing.

For $100 and having a tiny fraction of the technology of vBulletin and costs almost as much, it is a big disappointment. If it wasn't for the almost-seamless vB integration, I wouldn't have bought it.

I know there are a lot of PhotoPost/ReviewPost fans on here, so I won't complain too loudly. But overall my review of ReviewPost is a 6 on a scale of 1-10.

on mine, users can rate a product on multiple criteria and overall. Somethings messed up with it since we moved servers, but it's pretty customizable using templates or whatever.

For instance, one can rate travel companies based on pay scale, housing, benefits, etc.

or

They can rate hospitals based on staff, management, safety, nurse to patient ratio, etc.

Also,

sorry if my comments lead you to a purchase you are unhappy with. For my purposes, it's been great, although I don't know what I'd compare it to.

Like I said, if Brian creates a reviews script in the mold of the gallery one, I'd be all over it...

Well, I registered just to see what you were talking about.

I see the mutliple criteria. However, I don't see the results anywhere. Maybe I'm not looking in the right place, but it seems a little useless if I am unable to see those averages, like the Healthcare Facilities Staff rating.

Truth is, I can hack the code to get it to do what I want. But for $100 I shouldn't have to. I'm a little bitter at how plain of a script this is for the money.

I recently completed a port of a "recommendations" feature that was originally written in perl. It's now integrated into vb using the CMPS system. It still needs a bit more work and the code could stand some cleanup as I'm not a PHP expert.

Take a look at our Recommendations (http://www.babblers.org/index.php?page=recommend) pages and see if something like this would work.

It's basically a 3 table db with top level categories, vendors, and reviews. It doesn't currently support rating the review as we don't need that but it could be added.

I think I will follow this thread a little more before I lay out the cash for ReviewPost, are there many more users on here use it, could I have your feedback on it please

That's what bothered (and still bothers) me the most, but like has been said, what are the alternatives if you want vB integtration?
