is it possible to import the DMOZ into this software?

I'd like to buy this, but then prepopulate the directory.

wouldn't importing the DMOZ be illegal at some point?

I dont think so, would it? I mean if that would be the case why would they offer their database?

RDF dumps of the Open Directory database are available for download.

it's not illegal as long as you fulfill their requirements which are pretty much just putting the little "powered by dmoz" box at the bottom.

I did it but it was a pain in the rear quarter.

You need to install the Links and Files Database Hack over at vb.org. As well as get the importer for that script here. The L&FDB hack allows import of CSV files.

First, you have to use a dmoz reaper like this one that I used:

http://www.pjltechnology.com/dmoz.htm

Then once, you extract you need to save it to a pipe delimeted file. Then Import the file into MS Excel (Or something else) and add the fields for import into the Links & Files Dbase Hack from vb.org. Then save the file as a CSV delimeted file. An example is in the L&FDB Hack installation instructions.

Import it into the L&FDB Hack, edit categories etc etc. Then run the VBA Links converter for the L&FDB hack.

It will take a while (Read: day or two) but you will get it.
