Different style blocks based on position?

Is there a way to make any left/right side blocks automatically use a different style than those positioned in the center? I know I can edit the templates for login, etc. individually, but I was wondering if there was a way to specify a different style for blocks automatically depending on their position (ex: right, center, or left) instead?

There's not really a good way to do this, at least not that I know of.
