Here is a suggestion for the new release.

Sometimes it is useful to use different custom fields in categories. So maybe it is useful to select for what categories the custom field is for.

A couple of people have suggested this and I've thought about adding it, but the only problem is that you can select different categories from the addlink.php page, so it would be a matter of figuring out which custom fields to display there.

If the category is not already set at addlink time, then a separate step to select one first. Easy for me to say!

I think I'll remove my custom fields. They don't make sense in all categories, and I can't trust my users not to be confused about that.

Really, a descriptions is all that's needed, perhaps a prompt to remind people what they might add. But the internet doesn't work like that. If you don't give them the fields to complete, they will not fill in the details in a text area. Bitter experience here.

Templates, permissions, custom fields.... all by category please. Wake me when RC765420 is ready (grinning).

Here's a suggestion for you:

-Add some image handling. One is fine.
-Custom fields and permissions by category
-Throw out or enclose in options the linking stuff
-Make the nouns and verbs for link,directory, and category easy to change

... now you have a nice little vb database and interface. Member profiles, classified ads, reviews, articles, games, art, photos, blah blah.
