If I set this up and keep the name as adv_index.php (I currently have an ordinary page on index php)

When I'm sure everything is working hunky dory and I'm happy, if I simply delete my own index page and rename adv_index.php to index.php will I have to recompile links or adjust any settings anywhere at all.

I've basically been trying this on another domain name and although I'm not 100% confident yet I'd like to just do a back up and take the plunge and just work on adding modules and testing the portal page output without visitors to my site actually knowing. I mean they will go to the original index and follow the link to forum page but not necessarily find the portal page. I feel trying this on two different domains is more time consuming and I'm so behind with coursework I want to take my time with the portal page and the only disruption to them will be when I do the back up and instal this, which shouldn't be more than about an hour should it?

Secondly and I don't forsee this but I just in case.. should I decide after installation that I'd rather not have a portal, will this be easy to uninstall, will I lose any posts etc.

Thanks for any help

NB up there where I said I'm not confident, I meant I am confident in the product just not me.

Let's see....

Renaming the file... assuming that "cmps_index.php" is not in the same folder as your forums, then, yes, just changing the name of your existing "index.{whatever}" file to a new name and then renaming "cmps_index.php" to "index.php" should work fine.

I'm not sure what the question is in the second paragraph. If you're asking how long should it take to install CMPS, that depends upon how many styles have to be changed (for when you do the calendar template changes) and how comfortable you are with making edits. For a stock site an install can be knocked out in about 10-15 minutes (or less) and for people who never done any 'hacks' before it shouldn't take them any more than an hour.

Uninstall.... yep, pretty easy. You can either remove the changes from the PHP files or just re-upload copies of the original PHP files from your vBulletin zip file. Or, if you rename the index file back to "cmps_index.php" and put your oringal index file back then nobody would even know it's installed. (I actually do that with a site that I help out with; they didn't want to change their intro screen but wanted to take advantage of creating custom pages on their site... using CMPS made the job a 5 minute task. )

cmps_index.php is in the main part and the forum index is /forums.. cool I didn't want to get "caught out" with having to rename stuff :)

Not being too great my choices of style consist of one graphic change and the rest are colour changes, so I would just do the main one and later down the road when I had more time would just make child styles and alter the numbers and one graphic..

I only have the astrology hack thing and users in the last 24 hours neither of which take very long (though obviously I don't know if they will work with this)

Great thanks. the need probably won't arise but like to have the option :)

Thanks AGAIN for all your help. Much appreciated.

Off to take the plunge :)
