since you aren't busy enough (sarcasm). I'll be honest, I'd feel best purchasing such a monster from VBA than others who *might* volunteer their time to make said product. We have our portals, we have our articles systems, we have our picture/movie galleries...but we don't have a fully integrated download system. It's the one *big* thing that VB is missing IMO. I know the likelyhood of seeing said request come to life is slim to none and if I'm not mistaken, that's slim heading out the door now. But it sure would be nice....
just a suggestion is all. I know I'd pay $50 for a system as nice a Gallery but for downloads and file management (not content).

I guess I'm not seeing the need for this type of app, because vBulletin will do everything you asked for in that original post. You can create forums/sub-forums, manage permissions, ratings, attach files and screenshots, allow people to comment (reply) to the listing, searching, etc.
What's missing? :confused:

That's not something I'm going to rule out, but right now we've got to figure out which scripts might be the most beneficial without releasing more than we can handle and overwhelming ourselves with support and updates.

And, for that matter, vBa Gallery could be used, couldn't it? You can upload any file type you wish to allow..... And it allows users to use FTP to send large files.
Do some phrase updates to replace all the references to Image(s) to File(s)....

Yeah, to me at least it sounds like Gallery could be shaped to do it with the exception of uploading a screen shot with the file.
(But I think Brian has that on his "maybe" list anyway for one-day)

Yeah I wouldn't mind something like this and could actually show you guys a good location to look at for some ideas.
Gallery could be used as the main base of coding with the way it is set-up.

@Conqsoft - Take a look at the major additions section @ vb.org. VB Downloads Area 1.2, Ron1n's Downloads 1.0e, AndrewD's Links and Files and a few others. So there is a need but I don't think anyone has articulated it very well. The big beef I have is that I don't want to use the forums. Yes, Gallery could be used with some love and modification but we're talking about some work that needs to be done.
@Fiber - I'm wanting to look
Basicly, yeah, I'm looking for a file distribution version of Gallery. But some of the features needed would be the ability to pull files from the filesystem versus uploading them into gallery (or whatever). There are a few good suggestions in the post on vb.org from another poster and all of those are good but myself (and a few others) were looking for a complete and polished system, that did not use the forums, for downloads that was integrated w/ vb.
If you all are confident that Gallery could be used for that, I wouldn't be against donating for that modification. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE gallery so far but I wouldn't like the way the pages are formated for a file/download system so I would desire (obviously for myself) different templates used just for a different, more consistant look for files. If anyone remembers the old BBS days of the 80's and early 90's, Major BBS and ....meh, the name eludes me, Tele-something BBS, had really powerful file management systems.
Yes, putting these in the forums would work but it's just not good looking and it's really not a user-friendly interface as a dedicated (like gallery) section would be. Anyways, I'm starming. Like I said, I might be interested in paying if someone is up for some custom action.

Turns out what I was looking for is already out there. Thanks for listening at least. I was actually dorking around with Gallery last night to see how hard it would be for me (or someone else) to change it all up to support a system like I was envisioning. Instead...I don't have to recreate the wheel. Check it out, it's a pretty sweet looking program.

Yeah I have seen the Secure Downloads site, but all these mods/hacks are looking to much like the forums which get very redundant. I agree with Aurora on the fact of a different template look. JMHO
