We are considering having CMPS installed on our site here:

However what we wanted to achieve if it was possible was to show the entirty of the forum in the middle including shoutbox, with the modular elements down the sides .

Is that possible to achieve so that basically the entirity of the forum is visible in the middle section and we do away with the 'news' section or restrict it to just one news item at the top with the forum directly underneath it?

Yes, if you look in the user's manual available in the Members' Area here you will see a section about integrating other vB pages / hacks.
