Problem with custom fields and editing a site

when I go into the page details of a link and click on "edit" it takes me to the page to edit the link... however, I have several links that require to select fields from a drop down list... and when I click on edit the fields seem to reset to the "please choose one" option... even if the link had an option selected...

can someone look into this and help me out?

Are they just select fields, normal input text boxes, or what?

one is a select field the other(s) are just normal text input fields
