View Full Version : Looking For a Navigation Module ?

Well look no more, I had been on the lookout for a good navigation module for quite a while and been through lots and lots of variations of them found on this website and others. When I realised none of them suited me my needs or want I thought about making my own. But Since I don't know a thing about coding, I decided to do something pretty unique with the thought..
Presenting the Deviated Navigation module :P
A combination of multiple navigation module scripts
Features
1. Search box ( Means you can disable the search module to reduce load )
2. Drop Down Menus ( add as many drop down links and sublinks you want )
3. Mouse Roll overs ( color changes on both main menu and submenu )
4. Unique Button feel to highlight dull areas such as archive as text mode.
5. Add marquee images ( affiliates ) depending upon need ( code is not included but it's basic html which anyone can add )
6. Button to profile image to highlight as album.
7. Complete IE and FF support
8. Easy to edit code parsing ( copy paste and edit on wordpad quickly )
9. Rename the module from edit module page instead of html coding.
10. Conditional AdminCP link for admins.
Many thanks goes to

& Polo for some indirect mental help ;)
And last but not least, to Brian for making such an awesome product. :D
If you wanna see what all else you can do with this navbar, drop by my website at www.deviatedhq.com just in case I do anything nifty to it later.
You can also look for support Here (http://forums.deviatedhq.com/forumdisplay.php?f=77) just in case I dont come here for a while.
Many thanks :D
And now for the good stuff.
1) Go to your Admincp -> open vBa CMPS -> Add Module
- Module Title : Navigation
- Module Identifier - blank
- File to Include: - none
- Template to Include: - devnav
- Activate and select the column you want it in. ( make sure to change "margin-left:100px" to left or right upon need in the drop down menu links area in the template code )
- Display Order: - o on the left is usually the best location
- Template to Include: - adv_portal_devnav
- Save.
2) Admincp -> Styles and Templates -> Add template "adv_portal_devnav" template.
3) Template Name: "adv_portal_devnav"
4) IN template box copy paste the template code ( attached navcode.txt )
5) Upload upnew.gif & navbits_dash.gif to your skins ( 'misc' ) folder
6) Modify the code to anything you want, now SAVE and your done :D
Note: Dont forget you You can save server resources by disabling the search module from the edit cmps module page ;)

hmmm
2) Admincp -> Styles and Templates -> Add template "adv_portal_latesttopics" template.
3) Template Name: "adv_portal_devnav"
Typo? Or I am lost here? You should add the template and then name it? Where does adv_portal_latesttopics come into place. Forgive me if I am retarded, been up all night

Hey great module this is the 2rd module I have tryed to installed and It installed. I had two problems with it but. The to contact us didn't work probably and admincp. I had to find the a href and put in /Community/sendmessage.php and /Community/admincp. The rest worked fine. Just thought you would like to know otherwise thank you very much for sharing.

Deviated,
How do you get your list of "staff" to show. Is it an add on or is there some simple way within VB to show similar to the way you do on your site?
Thanks

It's the page forum leaders...all vb boards have it
When I try to create the template i get this error. Does this work for 3.0.7?
The following error occurred when attempting to evaluate this template:
Parse error: parse error, unexpected T_ENCAPSED_AND_WHITESPACE, expecting ']' in /home/mysite/public_html/forums/includes/adminfunctions_template.php(3096) : eval()'d code on line 76

This is likely caused by a malformed conditional statement. It is highly recommended that you fix this error before continuing, but you may continue as-is if you wish.
I guess the gallery was the issue.
Thanks bud ;)

;)
lets see ur site mon
http://askhow.net I just converted from PHP Nuke Platnium so it's just the basic skin now. I can't get the left column to show right in the forums. Seems alot of people are having the same issue with the left column showing below the forums instead of beside. I have tried every fix I could find in the forums and in the manual but nothing has worked.
You have any ideas Dev?

hmmm, the drop down ?
I really wouln't know myself even if you told me it was the drop downs. It's definitely a prob. No responses in the related thread either.
How is that link part supposed to work? It did absolutely nothing for me so I removed it. How is it supposed to work, inconjunction with another hack? Talking about save or steal this link drop down thing.

Not getting you ?
I see on your site you don't have the part I'm talking about in your Nav block. It was a drop down and had about 5 links that said duplicate this link. What was that for?
You block is cool but I can't add the left column to my forum pages without the including the right column or the left is under the forums instead of beside like it's suppose to be. It's some sort of bug with VBadvanced or VB 3.0.7 Can't figure it out.
Right now I only have the right column added to the forum pages but if you want to see what I mean I will show you. What version of VB are you using, 3.0.7? I like how you have your left column on your forum pages.
Hope that's a little clearer bud.

So far so good (http://www.njflyfishing.com)... Looking forward to really utilizing this add-on.
I have a question. Can I have certain items open in the center block. For an example, I was using VBPortal. There was a module which allowed me to click on any link in a menu system such as this great one, but the users never had to leave my page. All pages opened up where my 'active threads' show up... To see what I'm talking about, check out my forum. See the navigation menu and click on the drop down. You will see USGS links. When one of those links are clicked on, I would love to see the page come up in the center of my existing page, essentially replacing 'latest forum topics'.
Thanks for this great 'hack'.

I hate frames lol
Morrow

Is Iframe really a 'frame' in the way we typically think of frames though? I'd just like to have something that allows the users to not have to leave the home page. The rest of the site is set up like this...

I just used the same format but removed the dropdown menus and used regular html code working great! Its not the prettiest, but ok for a temporary solution.
