welcome block - avatar/profile pic

hello - currently mu 'user cp' welcome block displays my avatar - and since avatars are disabled on my site i get the 'noavatar' instead ... fair enough. However - ive noticed that our member can still specify a profile pic ... so I was thinking - can the profile pic be displayed in the welcome block instead of the avatar - and how would I go about doing this change?

why not just enable avatars, and set the size limits? I am missing the point for taking the time to do this.

Cause I only want this custom pic on the welcome block of the homepage - not all over everyones posts .... I dont want avatars.... all i want is what I need to change so the welcome block picks up the profile pic instead of looking for an avatar.
